all i have to say..epic. if you haven’t seen this guy live, your life is not complete
the first act that played..i can’t remember the name (the guy wasn’t really enunciating on the mic so it was hard to make out), but they played a mix of dnb/dubstep/funk, with one guy on a saxophone and one guy playing drums, while they had some kind of mix going on the guy with the sax was using a laptop to manipulate. it was pretty dope, anyone know who i’m talking about?
either way, bassnectar’s setup (i’m pretty sure he uses ableton heavily) i found cool because even though he had his case of cdj-1000’s, i barely saw him touch it. he was heavy on the trigger finger, which i thought was cool because it’s one of the cheapest pads in it’s class. it really shows it’s about how you use the gear. he also had a xone 92 which he did some cool stuff with at times.
we sold out the place so he played an extended set needless to say i was at the most like 10 ft away from this guy, crowd was going nuts the entire time. it really made me fall in love with dubstep again, i love that feeling.
word. lorin rocks. i’ve seen him a couple times and he slays crowds everytime. at shambhala in 2007 he was going head to head with Z-TRIP for a good 30 minutes or so. bassnectar was droppin the beats and z-trip was dropping the cuts, it was pretty epic.
I have seen Lorin in Kelowna for the last few years, the shows there are absolutely epic. So much sound, wicked beats.
I am anxiously awaiting his return this year!
sounds like he sets it on fire wherever he goes he really is an inspiration to me as a dj and as a producer. listening to his stuff is like a slap in a face in a way, just yelling “STEP YOUR GAME UP SUCKA!” he is my motivation to be a better dj and producer
oh yeah there was a fight in the front row during his set, wtf? dumb kids.
he managed to deflect a beachball that came flying at him while tweaking knobs too, it was pretty funny/epic.
he seriously reminds me of cousin it from the adams family. there were times where there was no way he could see what he was doing, but..he was doin it. it’s pretty nuts when he gets into it and all you see is this mass of hair flying everywhere. haha.
A couple years back I got booked to play the chill-out room at the same party Bassnectar was playing at in SF. In the same time slot. Luckily I’ve gotten to hear Lorin do his thing a couple of times now, so I feel better
i played after Lorin in Austin a couple of years ago…talk about having a crowd served up to you ready for anything. at that time he was just playing cds. i’ve never seen someone do so much with two cdj100s!
word, see you in 2010 haha. i notice your from prince george, i lived there for a bit last year. it’s good to see more british columbians on the forum, 1 love!
