Just Washed and Dried my 16GB Thumbdrive

Washed and Dried :rage:

It was in my jeans 5th little pocket.

And it still works.

Should I keep it? Or not take a chance with a gig?

Anybody as dumb as me?

I’ve done it twice to the same thumb drive, I use it everytime and no problems things are indestructible…until the worst possible time

Ideally wash with iso if there’s a chance water got inside to the chips.

I am pretty sure water got all up in that shit. It was in a washing machine.

Arggghhh. Corrosion could take days or weeks.. or months.

Then buy a new one. They’re so damn cheap.

you right.

I wash mine all the time. Money and usb sticks always survive. Phones not so much! Should get in the habit of checking my pockets before washing my clothes.

I washed my little ipod nano the other day

have just been letting it sit- haven’t wanted to turn it on yet but I think it may be done

yea wtf? theyre cheap as hell, just buy a new one…

idk if u play out live… but theres nothing worse than the insecurity of ur equipment when ur playing live. once i notice something not right about my gear, i dont fk around with it in hopes itll work for next time. cause that next time, ur gear will crap out, and that next time might be ur last time playing at that venue.

unfortunately its the unremovable battery that killed it.

Stick it in a tub of rice.

I’d just be happy that you can recover any data from it and move on with a replacement.

I’ve had devices appear fixed with the ā€œrice bathā€ solution only to die out completely later that week.

yeah will try that- may be too late though. didn’t have any rice on hand when it happened the other day.

They should build phones out of money and usb sticks.

Soak it in lighter fluid; will dissolve any residue left on the PCB, and then stick it on a radiator (stick a towel between the radiator and the USB stick), or somewhere else about 40-50 degrees C, for a day or so to let the lighter fluid evaporate. Should be good as new

well it’s an ipod nano not a usb stick. my concern is more about the internal battery and it may already be fried. would 70% ISO alcohol pretty much do the same thing? may try that later.

i washed my sansa clip mp3 player and it worked…

should be fine but maybe stick it in the airing cupboard for a evening

Ooops, meant to quote loverocket haha. For you, I’d suggest dismantling the unit entirely and cleaning the PCB separately. With the battery, the only thing you can really do is check it against a voltmeter to make sure its still registering 3.7V.
