Kent's Formula to Create a DJ Name

Kent’s Formula to Create a DJ Name

First, leave out the DJ, it’s cheesy.

Secondly, if your given name sounds OK and is not hard to spell or pronounce, use it. Nobody could take that away from you, not even big corporations like Sandvik.

If none of those work out, then…

  • Take your first or last name and modify it a little bit. Let’s say my fellow Americans have a hard time pronouncing and spelling Sandvik so if I wanted to change this, my new artist name would be Kent Sandstrom, Kent Sandway or something like that.

If still not sure, then:

  • Collect over time a list of cool names and titles you like, do a slight modification and do an Internet search to make sure it’s unique. The shorter the better, Photek versus “Maximum Phase Audio Sorcerer.”

If that still does not work out, use http://www.bandnamemaker.com and something will bubble up.

After all this – and you better be sure you like the name as you will use it for 10+ years – build up your reputation and name by registering domains with this name, use it for your releases, DJ gigs, anything related to the music trade.

Ugh.

I’m sticking with DJ Basslicker

ie: Richie Valens

I know this because my mom is a Valenzuela. Even my dad’s last name’s originally spelling was change by my grandfather to make it more americanized. The original had V and a Z. Mine has a C and a B. Dammit.

Maximum Phase Audio Sorcerer actually sounds quite dope. I can imagine walking on stage in a big hat. Scratching with my magic staff

Beijsmentality, what you guys think?

I’ve said it before, and I will say it again, if you need a group of dudes you have never met to help you pick a name, go with this:

DJ Fisher Price

*note to anyone outside of north america, Fisher price is a toy company.

Lol, fisher price.

DJ Easy Bake

Droppin the dough and cooking up fresh beats.

lmao

.<

really? argos is a uk company

If you are underground you could use any company names. If you get just a little bit famous, any big company lawyers will contact you concerning trademark infringements. Sometimes you could fight them off as their product is very different from a music offering. But I would not spend my money hiring lawyers fighting other lawyers.

Here’s another hint for those on the eternal quest to find the perfect DJ name. Use the first letters from this and add a couple of consonants and vocals:

Son____
Neo____
Pho____
Cat____
Tri____
Hyp___

One or two X letters always makes the charm.

Oh, it’s Saturday noon, here’ another hint. Take any unused Dutch first name (or last name) and go with it. You might even fake you are a Dutch DJ for a while…

I did not know Fisher Price was ouside of NA. Thanks for the education Brad.

I think my fisher price joke was lost on some people…if you are more concerned with a name than actually DJing, you are a toy. Just a joke, unless you want to go out and call yourself DJ Walmart.

I used this method … had to go with the http://www.bandnamemaker.com/ link and it gave me:

Nicky Buffalo And The Grateful Hiatus

Which sounds like a shit indie band.

Or a night on acieed..

lol, no worries

I used my middle names, because I think ‘Harry Walker’ sounds a bit gimpy.

So it’s Eddie Williams.

I did think of DJ DYNATRONIKVALMORPHIDAZATION but it’s too subtle.

Damn…:disappointed:

I’m dutch, and I can tell you ‘Jos’ doesn’t sound very good as a DJ-name x)
