Why doesn’t Traktor add a feature that automatically highlights the tracks in your collection/playlists that match the key of the track that’s playing? Would be easy in 2 deck mode.
It could be toggled on and off.
If you were mixing more than 2 decks it could color code the decks playing. DECK A would highlight matching tracks in green and DECK B would highlight in red, Deck C in yellow, etc.
how hard is it really? if you set traktor to show key in open key it’s a matter of 2m=2m or 2m->2d 2m->1m 2m->3m and to move a 5th it’s ±7 so 2m->9m or 2m->7m
Nah. It’s the circle of fifths dude! Each step is a fifth. Moving seven steps = a semitone, the most discordant clash possible (although if you slam across a +7, you quickly go up a semitone, aka. the Stock, Aitken and Waterman effect).
yes you are right was sleepy when I wroth that but semitone mixing aka ±7 is not meant for blending but cut mixing to get an energy boost.
A lot of rock songs or even 80’s pop song do this at the end of a song repeating the last chorus but moving it up 1 semitone
Are you familiar with MS Excel’s IF function? It’s similar to that. Basically, Smart Playlists are queries of your entire iTunes database, returning ONLY those tracks in your database that meet a condition or set of conditions. They are dynamic - so whenever you add a track to the iTunes library, every Smart Playlist will be updated if that track meets the conditions in the Smart Playlist.
Like I said, it blew my mind when I started to read up on it.
No, I understand what they DO, I just don’t understand the point of them.
Am I the only one who just sticks all of his tracks in genre-specific playlists then works his way through that selection in a semi-random order according to mood of the room?
But if you have a specific idea for a mix (NOT necessarily when you’re playing out), it helps to be able to interogate your library, rather than just browse it…
It’s the difference between playing music for a bunch of people, and having an idea for a (perhaps themed) mix.
You p[robably won’t see the benefit unless you’re a little OCD… !
