The long waveform scares me lol. Kidding, will give it a listen when I get home.
Cheers, would love to hear your (and everybody else’s) thoughts! ![]()
I agree the waveform looks weird on my embedded player… it doesn’t look that aggressive on the site!
Haven’t sat down yet, I will today no doubt. Damn work.
The verb in the beginning at about 20 seconds or so seems too loud to me. It swallows up too much of the song. Kick is WAY to quiet throughout the song. Your other percussive elements are noticably louder than the kick. The kick also disappears almost completely at times when the bass plays the “right” note. So yeah, personally, I’d up the kick a good bit and probably either sidechain it to the bass or up the compression on the sidechain compressor if you’re already sidechaining it.
I like the deep vibe though and sound design as well as the vocal sample.
Cheers, this is really helpful. I badly need to upgrade and get some better monitors / phones. You were right, I just noticed the ratio on my bass sidechain was low!
I’ve made a few tweaks anyway, now to work out whether I can switch over the tracks on SC without deleting and re-adding…
You should be able to go to the track, Edit it, and choose replace file. Then just specify your updated, re-worked file and you’re golden. Works like a charm for me…
Edit > Replace file
Yeah I needed to upgrade first. I’ve tweaked the kicks and sidechain now so hopefully it’s a bit more punchy.
Are you using a wav sample for your kick or are you creating it in a vst like “Kick”?
It’s a couple of wavs layered and filtered. I haven’t found a vst that does something I like the sound of, but admittedly I haven’t spent ages looking.
Sonic Academy Kick
Kicks are really tough, especially when layering. Try the demo out you’ll love it.
Will do, cheers. What do you think of the updated kicks on this one?
They stand out a bit more and are still pretty subtle in the mix which I like. I only listened on computers speakers though since I’m at work. Good improvement though. In house like this I hate hearing really clicky kicks.
