Landr mastering
Hey!
I got a LOT of problems with mastering.
i was looking for someone to master my tracks till i found this mastering service (www.landr.com)
I already mastered 2 tracks with this, and it sounds ok to me.
Nevertheless i was wondering if i better make the mastering by myself…
What do you guys think of it ?
Don’t use landr unless you want mediocre results. They suck you into a paid membership anyways.
I think if you’re not going to pay a professional you’re better off just using whatever “mastering preset” comes with your DAW. At least then you have SOME control over the results. Besides, mastering your own music doesn’t have to be complicated, software manufacturers just want you to think you need a ton of plug ins or hardware to do it:

Yep i’ll try to do this by myself, i’ve spent a LOT of time on ozone to get a result, unsuccessfully…

I think the downside of Ozone is that while more than capable of professional results, people try and use too many of the modules when they often don’t need them. Or they are trying to fix a mix issues in the mastering phase, which can often be more difficult than just going back and adjusting the issue in the mixdown. Leads to frustration for sure.
Less is more when it comes to mastering, you don’t need a complex chain if you’re mastering your own music most of the time. Just my $0.02 though.
What about mastering for stuff that is made up of already mastered music?
I’m thinking cut n’ paste jobs, and mash-ups/bootlegs.
Is mastering really needed for those types of things?
IMO, no. But it would depend on what you were doing with the audio too. If you’re layering a tiny snippet of a mastered song over your own beats and synths, then likely it might.
You work so hard on the composing/mixing side of your song, having some preset robot polish it off is just insulting to an artist in my opinion.
How about going back and finding someone to master the tracks for you! It’s really not much money to have a track or two professionally mastered, and it’s well worth it if you think your track and the mix are worthy.
I used to do professional mastering myself, but I would without a doubt send my track to have it professionally mastered if I was releasing it. Apart from anything, my monitoring environment is just not good enough.
i did a blind test on this site with LANDR and without fail every person that replied was able to identify the “robot” mastered track, and told me my original sounded best, and i know next to nothing about mastering.

Whoa I never knew something like this existed. It reminds me of this one program called “Dr Drum” that was supposed to make you a “pro beat producer in minutes.” Skip this kind of nonsense and have a professional do your mastering

Yes, even a beginners master could potentially sound better than LANDR.

when i was a kid i could not afford to master my mediocre tracks, so i took the time and studied mastering… watching videos, tutorials, reading on gear… listening to pros basically went to the college of google. I am quite good at it now.

I also tried Landr and my original mastering did sound better
I think its a good idea to try Mixing and Mastering on your own
If your producing then its a good idea to have some knowledge in these areas
