The best laptop in the world is still going to be slow as hell if you don’t protect it from internet nasties.
Assuming it is Windows.
Install a good AV program that sits in the background, doesn’t consume too many resources or “bothers” you with messages to upgrade, doesn’t kick in for an automatic scan and use 100% cpu etc.
Lock down your browser, if using firefox install
- adblock edge
- ghostery
- noscript
- eff HTTPS everywhere
Obviously don’t open attachments from emails unless you are 100% sure of what they are. Even emails from “friends” should not be trusted unless you were expecting the file, if you want, write back and confirm.
Keep regular backups . snapshots of your machine so you can easily revert back to a “clean” time should you get infected.
Perhaps, but is a bit drastic, consider using your laptop only within a VM for your day to day use, thus keep the base OS as clean as possible for your DJing needs
