Laptop help or sugestions

I am having a laptop built just for my djing . I am putting in 6 usb 1 sat 1 firewire . As far as software just operating system ( which is the best any feedback will help) and nothing else 4g memory 500 ghd .No ethernet no modem just what i needed to run Traktor .Anything i missed please please chime in want this to be right so please if i am missing or can gt rid of anything please let me know thanks

Well I recommend a MacBook Pro with Bootcamp to Win 7. You could have both OS’s apps in case you need something in particular at any given time. Then having an external HDD with backups of all your files, apps and settings. That laptop has light on keyboard that helps a lot in dark environments.

Also while I know that you can build up your on laptop like those on http://www.sagernotebook.com/, having more than needed components can lead to higher fault instances. Obviously a all-in-one lappy would be great but for DJ’ing in front of people I try to stay with a simple laptop with a tried and true formula.

Windows 7 32bit. Support for XP will be trailing off soon, so I wouldn’t recommend that.

Well thanks but I am not a mac fan thanks for input . Was going to go with 7 so just keep it simple with no programs except for traktor and the usb ports needed to run my gear .Its either this or just buy a hp and strip it down to the bone.

I <3 my HP. Even though it gets hot enough to bbq on.

Who and what is building you a laptop?, specs?, is it an OEM/ODM?

A friend of mine has someone that builds comps desk and laptops .He hooked me up with him and he will build me what ever i need .So i would like input on what i should and should’t put in it .I was thinking 6 gigs of ram 500 ghd 6 usb ports window 7 32 bit .No ethernet card no modem ,camera ,or any other programs just Traktor

Building a computer with no network access is like building a house with no doors… And if you’re going wifi only, might find some not so happy interference while you’re mixing.

so then i should put in both the modem the ethernet cards

Depends on your home network and what other computers you have. If your DJ computer is totally isolated from the internet than there is almost no chance of getting any viruses or malware, and you don’t have to worry about automatic updates interfering with the system and causing problems. On the other hand, you will not receive updates or bug fixes to your OS, drivers or software, which may cause instability down the road. IMHO you will be best served by having at least one way to access the internet, in case you need to download something. You can always turn it off when you DJ.

Even though you said you don’t like mac,

Just buy one, for a dj or any performer its the best option. Because i had windows 7 running and to be honest it was utterly s**t.

Well I think im going to have to look into a mac. What should I get in it be gentle I am a mac virgin. What model how much ram and hard drive , is it the same as buying a pc as far as memory and hard drives .

I used to be a wingeek, but after buying my MBP I live by this quote:

Though I have to warn you:
1x firewire port
2x USB port.

Hubs required with your setup.

yes i noticed that they only have 2 usb but is there any difference in the ram or hd what should i get how much of each (man these are expensive).Would it be worth it to buy a usd one for my first one

I bought my MBP for around €2000,- last september.
4GBs of RAM, 2.66Ghz C2D CPU and 320GB harddrive.

It’s a purchase I have never regretted, as I have done with some of my intel PC purchases.

Well I am looking for my first mac ,was at sisters for dinner tonight and she just got one .Was I impressed I am off to start shopping around for one thanks all for the push and the help . Still a few questions I just bought 2 hard drive 1tbt each I am in the middle of putting all my music on them and running them threw platinum notes will this till work on mac

Yeah Mac all the way!

Any Mac now is MORE than powerful enough to run TP, but like any computer you should buy the best you can afford to minimize future-proofing. I would however, not buy the memory from Apple… it’s hyper expensive, instead do your RAM upgrade with Kingston, you can buy from them direct and guaranteed for your specific machine on their sight.

its more importmant that nothing(mean for hardware) is active in your os. I recommend dual boot. One OS for DJing(here is mine version,it sound complicating but its not, removed all stuff from XP read it My XPoptimization), and one for regular use.
Its not important that XP will be abandoned by Microsoft, if its working with your dj software now it will be working for at least couple of years. And one more thing I heard that DDR3 have more latency then speed so maybe its good to go with DDR2. The grater latency is accepted only if the DDR3 is high speed above 1333MHZ or something.

I do too!!! but after being hot so often the video card burned out. I’m so sad.

now i’m using a backup HP that has win7 and celeron…yes celeron processor. I run game booster and have not had 1 freeze or hickup. I tell you if it was XP i would have problems

what are the tweaks for windows 7
