Laptop recomendation needed

Hello,
The hard drive on my main rig, an HP Pavilion dv6000 died 2 months ago and now my backup rig is acting up. I backed up all of my music just in case and want to purchase a new laptop all together.

I was looking at an Alienware M15x, but I was I had a few questions about the operating system. I have a choice of;

Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64bit
Genuine Windows® 7 Professional, 64bit
Genuine Windows® 7 Ultimate, 64bit

And I wasn’t sure if my software and hardware worked with these operating systems.

I have the following hardware:
VCI-100 SE
KorgPad Kontrol
Novation, X-Station 25
M-Audio ProFire 2626 (Audio Interface)
MPC 1000
Motif ES6

Software:
Traktor Pro
Adobe Audition 3
Abelton Live 8
Izotope (Mastering)

Is anyone using the new Windows operating system? If so, what has your experience been?

Can anyone recommend another laptop for comparison?

Thank you in advance for your input.

my condoleances for your loss

I personally like my Dell XPS and my Znote notebooks.
Fast, reliable and not too expensive (between 1200 - 1500 Euro)

WhatI hear from my friends Win7 works better than Vista, although I have no problems

Whatever laptop you choose make sure you search for the model name in google with the adition to DPC latency to see if the laptop your buying has DPC latency issues which be a very good indicator the laptop isnt suitable for music applications.

I’ve been doing my homework here are a few links:

MPC 1000, has a lil bug with Windows 7, but works

I’m still curious about your experiences.

Good advice! I need to look into that.

And I will look at the Dell XPS, thanks!

instead of what model, shouldn’t you be considering what features it needs? firewire & plenty of usb ports by the sounds of your hardware list? also large HD so you don’t need to take an external one to gigs. do you need a high power draining graphics car like on the alienware’s? long battery life & plenty of ram are good options
I use a Sony Vaio NS30 - love it, lasts over 3hrs on a charge, more if I use the power saving settings

here’s a link to the latency checker I use

most people use their NB also for other stuff like playing games, re-installing windows again , watching explicit movies. So I would rather go for a NB with some impressive features.
Battery life is nice, having an adapter with you is even nicer.
(tip: buy 2 adapters, keep one at home, the other one in your bag)

I have no problems with Windows 7 64-Bit.
Everythings running great with a great performance
