Latency…

Will using a NI Audio 2 or Audio 6, rather than relying on my MIDI controller’s built in sound card reduce overall latency?

What is youre current midi controller?

What’s your latency at?

Depends on the drivers of your current controller and your system settings/health. There is no hard rule about the subject.

using Hercules RMX + Midi Fighter , mac book pro -
currently can get latency under 10ms but its choppy.
so adding sound card wont improve latency?

Is your CPU spiking?

spiking? - i dont think it is…

Try running Traktor with just the Midifighter, and run it on the internal soundcard and see what that gives you. Just have to trouble shoot and see if we can’t find one piece that’s messing this up.

i cant run midi fighter by itself as traktor indicates no audio is connected.

The internal sound card being used is solely the Hercules RMX

a while back I mapped all the LEDs on RMX to pulsate with the beat and someone mentioned in older post this causes performance delays?.. so using a sound card wont help?

You should be able to run Traktor with the internal soundcard, I do it all the time when organizing music.

sorry :open_mouth:- minor brain fart there.. yes no issue when hooking up that way.
However midi fighter was never the issue even when all the gear is hooked up I was never getting lag on MF.

Did you try disabling Multicore Support to check if the spikes were gone?

you’ll have to excuse me - not sure what multi core is.
re: spikes - i didnt seem to be getting high CPU usage spikes as displayed by Traktor.

oddly enough I was just messing around with internal - then switched back and hooked all my stuff up again and now I am getting beautiful performance feedback. Latency is 8.5ms and is not noticeable at all. I have even switched MF and RMX from each USB port and both are working very optimal now..

so now my issue is reliability.. its fine now but for how long. WIll it perform when i need it to.. ha ha

sorry to pester but no one really addressed if sound card will assist to reduce overall latency..?
thanks

8.5ms is pretty solid mate, really won’t make THAT much a difference if you can lower. And in all actuality that would only drop to 7 or 6ms.

Just remember what you connected on which port and keep using it that way. 8.5ms is great latency

i appreciate your continued interest … thanks

today was the first time I could get my latency under 11ms and not have choppy movements.
i tried both ports just now and got really great performance from each..

i am just confused now as to what was creating the latency issue before?.. it was really bad, so bad that I could raise the volume fader up then down with no reaction on the DAW. I’d hate to play out and experience this latency issue. i am happy now yet worried about the future

Who knows, there’s always random gremlins in these programs. Maybe all you had to do to exercise them was to switch the soundcard back and forth.

If it happens again you know what to do at least (or where to start)

Putting latency beside, i do think you will get better soundquality with a traktor audio interface than with youre current Hercules RMX interface.
