Launchpad MINI vs APC MINI...

Launchpad MINI vs APC MINI…

Hello. I’m looking to get one of these controllers. I’m fairly new to Live and I’m just getting my hands wet. Both of these controllers are $99, yet the APC comes with faders. However I keep reading about the “shift” problem on the APC. Can somebody please advise and steer me in the right direction? Thanks!

Edit: Primarily using for live DJ use only (session view). Not planning to use for any production etc.

Edit2: I have an external mixer which I’ll be using along with one of these two controllers.

Edit3: Did the right thing and settled on an APC40.

You’re going to want those faders mixing with just a launchpad is a massive pain IMO. For an extra 50 bucks or so you could pick up a APC40 Mk1 which I would HIGHLY recommend.

If you don’t need the mini size I’d go with a APC40 Mk1 as well, (I have one) it built like a tank - and you really do need knobs and faders IMHO especially for DJ use, unless you are running all your channels individually into an external mixer.

Even then though, for effects and other interesting things, you need knobs

Thanks guys

Sooo I caved and picked up a secondhand APC40 mk1!

Nice one

Good choice

Thanks dude. Yeah i scored a mint APC40 for $100. Downloaded the Will Marshall DJ Template. Mind is blown, life has changed. :stuck_out_tongue:

Glad you like it! Will Marshall is the man!

Came here to suggest APC40 but you’d already bought one

I’ve been reading alot of complaints about the apc mini.
I reckon I could write a script to fix it (If someone wants to send me one)

I think you made the right choice, I also think that the apc40 mk1 work better for dj sets than the apc40 mk2!

Why do you think Mk1 is beter for DJing than Mk2? I have never had any, but was thinking about buying one.

Yeah the APC40 has a nice solid build to it as well, I had the APC20 and loved the build quality. Suck the mk2 version isn’t as durable.

I loved the feel of the apc20, but is there a different way to put it in midi mode without opening and closing ableton everytime you want to use it with another piece of software?

You can set up the likes of EQ on “channels” more logically due to the layout of the knobs. IMHO the build quality is also a million times better than the Mk2.

You don’t need to, unless you want the buttons to toggle layers exactly the same way as in Ableton - otherwise it just works as a midi controller and you’ll need to create your own shift layers or modifiers within your software of choice.

if you do want to put it in ableton mode you can always just send out the sysex… Hacking on the APC 20 | audio destrukt
