Whats the best way to keep my speakers safe at a house party? Usually when I’m DJing I’m right there next to my speakers the whole night so can watch the levels and make sure they don’t get cranked up too loud but in a couple of weekends I’m just taking my speakers for use at a party and I won’t be Djing (there will just be an iPod plugged in).
I want to know if you guys have any tips for making sure they don’t get wrecked but someone who decides they want the music louder, I was thinking maybe running sound through Ableton with a limiter on the master channel to make sure the volume doesn’t get cranked up too high?
so… youre gonna leave your computer lying around for some drunk person to possibly fuck with?
duct tape the Master volume on the speakers to a certain point… set em to “your max safe vol” and control the master vol from teh ipod.

hide teh amp and however you control the volume on teh speaker (mixer or whatever)… and just bring the speakers out.. may need longer cords.. but hey.. protect your gear right?
if they still have access to the PA volume knob you are screwed. Set it at a decent level with enough headroom for people with overcompressed music on their ipods and find a way to hide it.
Set the amp volume to the max, use a limiter in line set to -10db with an infinite Ratio should do the trick. Better if you have a limiter with Negative ratio.. so the more they crank it up, the less volume they have. Sure it will sound crap if they abuse
Sounds like a good plan.
“WTF are those knobs?”
“The DJ ones on a previous gig… he was in the clipping, and its dancefloor get empty once… oh well, good luck for tonight bro. FYI: I have 48 channel mixer a home looking for knobs…”
