I am really interested in getting into live music and am looking for a pretty much all in one controller. I know that is noobish but space is important to me because i live in a tiny ass dorm. I know that i would like to use ableton triggers using mainly samples i get from traktor. I would like to know what I am getting myself into. Should i start with a launchpad or akai 40? And do those come with full editions of ableton live? Any input will be appreciated. Thanks.
if i understand correctly you want to use traktor for listening to music and when you hear something you like, sample it with ableton. basically the equivalent of the old school 2 turntables and an mpc?
i dont know what else you have or your experience level, but if youre just starting from scratch go for the launchpad. its cheapest, most compact, really versatile and pretty good with abletons drum racks plug in. if youre just starting i would suggest not trying to take on too much at once it will just become overwhelming and it makes it more likely you will make purchases you regret
and i would also start with the launchpad as a controller for ableton…the software it comes with is called the launchpad edition and it is not the full version but you can upgrade for a lot cheaper!
+1 on the launchpad, it’s excellent for what it costs, only paid 80gbp for mine new. it’s perfect for clip launching. also quite fun when mapped to traktor - not that you’d be interested in that tho…
Decide how you want to use ableton, then design your live set and perform it with a mouse and then decide if any controllers would suit your needs. Ableton live sets are deeply personal and you can’t ask such vague questions about it really.
