Livid Step sequencer on Ableton + traktor for all the rest – on the same CNTRL:R ?
Sup boys
I was wondering if I could use Livid Stepp:R on ableton and switch to traktor pressing a bank button?
Like I’m on traktor, I press bank 1 from my current traktor mapping, and it turn on the livid stepp:R on ableton. That would mean that it would temp kill traktors mappings (&lights?). Then I press bank 2 and traktor is mastering again
Currently you can only use bank feature to cycle 4 banks.
This means that you would need to create a copy of your Traktor mapping in bank 1 and remap it in bank 3. Then your Ableton stuff would be in banks 2 and 4.
Since the Bank button feature would only let you select next bank (1>2>3>4>1>…) you need to work with duplicates of your mappings. At the end you will have one mapping device in the Controller Manager which have one group of commands mapped in CH.1 and then use cmdr to copy entire mapping and paste it in same device (so you can share modifiers states later) and remap it for CH.3 which is default channel for bank 3 in CNTRL:R
Virtual Bank 1: Traktor
Virtual Bank 2: Ableton
Virtual Bank 3: Traktor (same as 1 but different MIDI channel)
Virtual Bank 4: Ableton (same as 2 but different MIDI channel)
nvm I guess that “livid drum stepp-r” header is the 1st bank
then I don’t understand why I’d need a copy of my cfg since I’m gonna use
-drum steppr
-bass sequencer
-synth sequencer
that’s only 1 bank left for traktor
I set it up like this:
Bomes is sending BMT1 to traktor and BMT2 to ableton.
Settings:
I got in my controller manager (in=BMT1//out=BMT1) two identical mappings; one is mapped in channel 1, the other is mapped in chan 3
In ableton, i got the cntrlr (in=bmt2 // out=BMT2) and as midi ports BMT2 ON/OFF/ON
I’m getting good control over both ableton and traktor, and accurate led feedback. So far so good (sometimes ableton is taking the lead for the LED)
I mapped in Ableton the traktor bank encoder to turn off the 3x steppr devices. It’s also mapped in traktor to bring bank1 (m5=1) and sending a monitor state to update the LED.
Problem is, when I press the traktor bank button, ableton is still “underneath the mapping” and still responds to every action I do.
I’m in fact using the “user mode” on the last encoder (top right) of the Stepp:r mapping. Pressing it will disable all Ableton commands that are button based (the knobs and sliders remain active - I’ll have to disable that somehow, or remap it to another controller).
This encoder pressed, I just have to activate my traktor bank1 with the top left button of the bottom rows. Then all my other banks appear and that works like a charm !!
I will have to map the 3 stepp:r encoders to disable my traktor mappings when pressed and that could do the trick. (/e it’s just perfect !!)
/e I’m not using the copy of my traktor tsi remapped in channel 3
/e I’ve contacted livid to unmap the knobs & faders from the “user mode”
I just had Livid’s response with solution and it works great.
Btw it’s not the first time that I contact them and I have to say that they’ve always been of great help, kind, and responsive. Great support.
Solution:
-In D:\Program Files\Ableton\Live 9 Suite\Resources\MIDI Remote Scripts\Livid_CNTRLR
-open Map.py file (I suggest that you keep a copy of the original file)
-change line 16 and 18 to the following:
