@Crowd3ontrol

Here is a somewhat recent video of me doing one of my Hybrid DJ/Controllerism sets:

Right now I’m actually on hiatus from playing shows because I’m in a huge transitional phase where I finally have enough original music to play a full Live PA/Live Performance set (think Ritchie Hawtin meets Glitch Mob). So I’m spending endless hours upon on hours programming my Ableton Live set along with the interfaces for the Lemurs.

My new live show will be me controlling two Macbooks running Ableton Live with 4 Lemurs. One laptop will contain all my loops for the full set and the other laptop will contain every sound sampled note for note from those loops. This way I can do a Live PA style set but at the same time retain a “playable sampler version” of any loop in my set.

I’ve managed to reverse engineer the Ableton sessions of people like Pretty Lights, Glitch Mob, Ritchie Hawtin etc… and re-tailor them to fit my needs as a live performer/controllerist.

The only downside to my new direction for my live show is that it takes forever to engineer a full set in Ableton and also programming Lemur interfaces.

Insane! I hope you keep us posted when you finish your programming.

Just got a boner

awesome

Here is a video interview where I talk about what I do more in depth.

That’s some impressive stuff man, looks great!

Awesome man! That’s an intense setup!

I first wondered why you had 4 lemurs but you seem to use them.. So my next question, why two Maschines? Just curious btw it ain’t any sort of dig.

Basically I have two setups depending on where I am in the world. My “real” job is a defense contractor where I work overseas 9+ months out of the year. So for me staying portable is a must.

I wanted to invest in a super awesome/powerful computer tower but again I have to stay portable. I’ve since purchased two of the new Macbook Pro’s with the Retina displays. By plugging these both into the same sound card and running all the same software its kind of like having the power of a tower just split into two. So this is where having “two or more” of everything comes into play. I’ll admit its probably excessive and over the top but I’ve developed a workflow with it that works very well for me.

The beauty of the Lemur is you can control up to 6 different laptops with one Lemur so I’ve made a template that controls all the major transport functions so both laptops always stay in sync. This way I can split the load between the two computers and not run into any bottlenecks with CPU.

Since I spend most of the year working in places that are less than ideal for music production; I have to keep all my lemurs here in the states especially since they are now a vintage item. This is why I was thrilled when the Lemur app for iPad came out. iPad’s are a lot more expendable than Lemurs haha.

So basically both of my setups revolve around redundancy because of to using two laptops.

Home Studio - Two Macbook Pros and x4 Lemurs
Overseas Studio - Two Macbook Pros, x2 iPads, x2 Maschines.

Also in aquiring all this gear was also a bit of luck on my part. I was able to get 4 Lemurs because I hit it big playing roulette in Vegas (True Story). The second Maschine was free because my brother went though a beat making phase which he fell out of and gave me his Maschine for free.

Any other questions let me know! Also if you guys want to know the more technical side of how I produce or perform don’t be afraid to ask!

Thanks,

-Jarek aka Lock//Stock.

Also nearly all the gear that I have when I first started this thread is gone now. I had to sell it all because I have to be portable. I sold everything except what I talked about above and now I work out of headphones instead of the MR8’s and a KRK 10" sub.

Its really nice because every aspect of my studio fits into a messenger bag and a little trolley that I wheel around when I’m traveling.

The only exception that is the four lemurs I have. Those stay in the states because they aren’t being made anymore. If one of them broke while I was traveling I would be devastated haha.

Sell me a lemur!!!

Nice! Holy crap 4 Lemurs…

wow thats insane! would love to see the final product…soudn like you could do some damage

Could u explained what u use each individual leamur for? Like what they are controlling?

this setup is insane  love it till death

Hey guys! I’ve finally resigned from my overseas contracting work and have a new setup now. I’ve also adapted a new producer moniker. Check out my sound cloud here. Since my original post I have started to head in a new direction and would like to start scoring films one day.

So this serves as an update to a very old post. I’ve sold a bunch stuff and acquired some new stuff. My old setup had a lot of bells and whistles many of which I didn’t even use. My new setup focuses more on raw computing power, high quality sample libraries, and top notch plugins. Here is all the new digs

x1 2014 Mac Pro
x2 2013 MacBook Pro’s
x1 UAD Apollo Quad
x2 UAD Satellite Quad
x4 JazzMutant Lemurs
x2 KRK VXT 4’s
x1 SubPac S1
x1 UltraSone Pro 900 Headphones
x3 Seagate 3TB Desk Pro Hard Drives
x1 Maschine
x1 Ableton Push
x2 Thunderbolt Displays

All together I have I have 52 CPU cores, 96 gigs of RAM, and 15TB of storage, and a partridge in a pear tree.

As for software and plugins, I exclusively stick to a handful of developers and use everything they make. Here are they companies and developers I love:

Vienna Symphonic Library
East West Quantum Leap
Native Instruments
Universal Audio
Spectrasonics
Spitfire Audio
Project Sam
FabFilter
OHM Force
Ableton Live
Logic Pro
Celemony
Rob Papen
LennarDigital
Iced Audio
Sugar Bytes
iZotope

Right now I am producing a lot of orchestral cinematic songs and have stepped away from the EDM scene for a little bit so I can focus on learning how to score films. In this setup the Lemurs and Vienna Ensemble Pro are the must haves. On the Lemurs I have programmed a full scale 88 key touch screen keyboard. In addition to the keys I also have sliders that control pitch, MOD, DXF, Breath, Balance, Panning, Expression, Volume, and many other dynamics. I also have several freely assignable faders and all of the Ableton and Logic Pro hot key shortcuts programmed into buttons on the Lemur.

With Vienna Ensemble Pro I can open up server instances on all of my computers which allow my to farm out CPU processing in larger projects. So when I’m working on a gigantic orchestral composition I can effectively run all of my computers in tandem with one another. The way this works is I run Vienna Ensemble Pro (VEP) alongside Ableton. Ableton sends all the MIDI information to VEP which houses all the plugins that I use in project. The Plugins then generate the audio and send it back to Ableton. Due to the fact that Macs all use thunderbolt now, and thunderbolt can carry TC/IP messages. All of this can be done with very minimal latency.

Hope you enjoyed!

Holyshitiamsoerect…

WOW. <3 That is an amazing kit you have my friend, can we get a video of some of this stuff in action? A tour would be phenomenal of the studio.
