My mate gave me an unmarked CD to play at a party once and annoyed me enough till I played it.
I scanned through a few tracks and found that was pounding!
So I jammed it…
Then when the break came…it just dropped to fuckall…but a few random…piano plonks…like…by a cat walking on the keys or something…
I thought right…this IS psytrance…expect the wierd…but it went on for about 1.5 mins!
I was standing there…folks were eyeballin me…i was jabbing the FastForward button on the CDJ100…trying to figure out whether to mix in the next track…or wait for the damn break to end!
FFS!
Found out later which track it was…no surprise…Artifakt…king of ODD!
I literally mean the whole genre. I’ve yet to find a minimal track that ever somes out of its breakdown
A friend of mine when I first started DJing was into minimal glitch. I complained about some records I had that were great but the breaks were too long. He simply said, “nah, that’s cool – just gotta mix over that shit”. Haha.
Half of my progressive and minimal library has massive breakdowns, my favorite being, and i know i’ve mentioned it before, Rain by Omid 16b… its like a big 11 minute breakdown 
I know alot of Dj’s who always insisted on mixing through some of the best breakdowns in history … why ? … because the could, not even cause they didn’t like them! :-S

captain my captain by pan pot has a pretty epic breakdown, and i get deep by dj le roi is basically all breakdown LOL. also hypocrisy by abe daque (john digweed and nick muir remix) is laaaavly
dunno…i find that track really progressiv and hard…not really breakdownish…just my opinion

the driving kick makes it pretty hard, but i use it as a breakdown in my sets as after about th 4th minute it starts to drop off into the glorious breakdown and doesnt come back up for about 3/4 minutes, and i usually take about 4 minutes to mix into it anyway so that its a really gradual buildup then break. probably just how i mix it, but when i listen to it on its own it is a pretty hard track!

This excellent MJ bootleg has a crazy, long-ass breakdown starting at ~4:30 which lasts until about 7:30. Even at +8% it’s still VERY long! (that’s what she said)
Can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen this track completely blow apart dance floors in the mid 90’s when the rave scene was at the tail end of it’s prime.
