looking for free software to record streamed audio to MP3 - to sample videos etc
Just as the title asks, I’m looking for software that enables me to record audio from my computer through streamed audio etc so that I can bring that sound or recording into ableton to sample.
Audio Hijack Pro is an example, but I’m a PC user and the program is only compatible with Macs.
get winamp
then go looking for streamripper
it a plugin for winamp, it doesnt work as a standalone
IF i remember correctly it has its own website where its a legit version, no hacks, cracks, key gens and whatnot
Turn them both on.
Play the streaming music into Winamp, and hit the RECORD button in RIPPER.
Stop when you are done but keep in mind, its only going to record at WHATEVER the streaming bitrate is.
If its a 128k stream, thats your file,
DO NOT try and raise the bitrate afterwards because, that is just not possible.
The site is in german, but I can assure you it’s a legit source for freeware. It’s basically the online presence of one of Germany’s biggest computer magazines.
I know similar tools exist for other service as well. Just google “service name”-converter/downloader.
I find these tools to be better than recording the stream, since you don’t have to let the stream play but can simply download in the background, plus you never have the risk of drop outs like you would have if there were any buffer problems while steaming.
True. In my experience, internal audio cards can do it, external USB require good drivers (my Creative USB card can only do it with Creative drivers, generic Win drivers that install as default can’t).
