Loop IN and Loop OUT on one button

Loop IN and Loop OUT on one button

How do I map one button on the MIDI controller to manually set a Loop IN and OUT point ?

Thanks.

you mean so it sets the in, then you press again to set the out?

or setting a preset length?

for the 2nd one, you map loop set + active, make it a button, direct and select the length from the drop down.

for the 1st one i’d guess a mod. hit once to in, shift it to out? always used preset lengths so not played with in/out too much.

I need the first one.
Manual loop in and loop out points on the fly.
Mod what?
If I set a modifier to the button it doesn’t do anything M1=0, M1=1 etc.

???

mod should work

map loop in m1=0
learn button

map loop out m1=1
learn button

i post that on the assumption you have created a shift button as mod 1.

if not
pick a button
create a mod 1 in
learn the button
set it to hold
set value in drop down to 1

then when you hold it down m1=1 release m1=0, simples!

“I got no extra buttons left !”
lol

I really have no extra buttons available for a SHIFT option.

Just an idea I thought wasn’t tooo crazy.

I think that the Vestax SPIN controller has this function by default.

Check it out:

NEXT to the Pitch (sorry SPEED) fader.

Why do you realistically need to set a loop out point? A loop is bound to be either a 4/8/16, bars etc. I can’t 100% understand why you’d manually want to set the out point?

Why not just use the loop active on /off feature and have buttons to change the loop size, ideally on your VCI, or even you computer keyboard?

works better definately

my vci loop buttons set 16 beats, then the 3 buttons next to deck a pitch fader are 8/4/2 and the little black buttons next to them half/double the size.

^^
exactly

I’ve got mine setup on my steel like this:

|| || ← These are buttons by the way

|__| for reference… a b and c left ro right

A is loop- B is loop+ and C is in/active… I like it. and then since it’s actually a group of 6 buttons, flip and invert that and i have loop controls for the deck below. AND THEN MIRROR FOR DECKS B AND D… damn my head’s weird, that’s why i love it though.

On the spin, I’d do it with the two buttons and the shift. IN/OUT would become in/active for me and the auto button would by default be loop+, until you hold shift and it’d be loop- … my two cents

Yeah this can be done - i’ve just tried it and it works

But - you have a shift button on the SPIN - its below the load buttons so why not use that?

Gee, maybe cause it’s been the standard for the past 20 years:

First off I don’t have any extra buttons. I have two assigned for looping. If I could combine them into ONE for in/out then it would free up one for another assignment.

No big deal. I like having two buttons for IN and OUT. Like on the CDJ 1000.

Just wanted to see how it was accomplished technically without an extra modifier button. Not sure if the Vestax SPIN does this or not. Maybe someone can find out. And if it does, they can check the MIDI settings.

Don’t ask why, ask how.

got it!!!

learn the loop in button with modx=0
then learn it as mod with mod setting as 1
then learn it again as out with modx=1
then learn it again as the same mod with setting as 0 and modx=1

now when you press it, it places in point, sets mod to 1, so primes button for loop out, and also resets the mod to 0 when pressed to loop out
i know it’s using the same mod to mod the mod. but in theory should work, i have a couple of functions where mods are changing each other due to lack of buttons, and wanting 4 modes from jog wheels.

Thanks. I’ll try it and see.

Cheers ! TGIF !

how did you get on?

You could probably add to this as well by using exit learning the button as cancel loop when modifer “is in loop” = 1. That way it would cycle through …

Loop in > Loop Out > Cancel Loop. all on same button.

oooh… nice idea
