LPD8 - How many modes does it have…

Hey

So i’m thinking about getting the lpd8 as a bonus controller and i just want to know if it has different states.

Basically can i have a juggle mode where all the pads trigger hot cues, then press a button and have them as cue/play cue/pause/sync etc.

Will there be a light on it to indicate i’m in a different mode?

Like on my Oxygen 8 i use the different octave settings to have the keyboard do different things depending what octave i’m in.

I’ve had a look around but can’t really find any info… It says something about four programmable memory banks. Is that what that means?

Cheers peeps

It has 4 banks yes, so 4 different states you can assign midi. But you really have to select 3 buttons to change banks. You hit the program change button, then the bank number you want then program change again. I find it not very useful in a live environment to change between one midi bank to another, pressing 3 buttons is just annoying. I still find it a great addition to my VCI 100 tho, sence it is so small and can fit in the booth easily.

Even with no ‘banks’ , you could use a single button to flip functionality using modifiers in traktor.

Can anyone confirm if the unit has any kind of LED feedback ?

Yes it had LED feedback Although the actual button press changes the led state aswell as tracktor so it can get a bit messy sometimes. I’m still playing though so i may have not fully understood it yet.

Just to make you aware you have 16 buttons and 8 knobs on each bank as you can change teh state of the buttons with 1 press by using the CC & Pad functionality.

How does the CC work? When I switch to CC it trigures my effect units for bank 3 and 4, which I have my knobs mapped to. The harder I hit the pads the higher the value I will get. Would I be able to use the CC “bank” to switch from hotcues for deck A and B, which I have mapped in the pad “bank” to hotcues C and D in the CC “bank”.

You need to change the notes with the editor that its giving out. For some reason the standard mapping has them all conflicting. The cc noted the pads give out are the same as the cc noted the knobs use. A bit rubbish really but it can be fixed.

With the unit on cc pressing pad 1 can give a totally dif comand from pressing pad 1 with it in pad mode effectively giveing you 16 pads that are easy to get to.

Plug the unit in and load up the editor software. Look at the cc notes that is assigned to the pads and just make sure they are diff to the cc notes the knobes have assigned to them.

Hoope that helps…

hmmm thanks for replies. Sounds a tiny bit more complicated than i’d hopped for. Oh i might just get one anyway. Cheap as chips and the pads will be better for beat juggling anyways…

My oxygen 8 is a great second controller but when i play out it’s just too hectic having a vci and a midi keyboard…

Trust me this controller compliments the VCI 100 SE perfectly. I use it with mapping 2_5. Control banks 3 and 4 on the knobs and keep the pads for hotcues. And it all fits in a small space.
