Mac Book Pro users: USB 3.0?

Mac Book Pro users: USB 3.0?

i have held off buying a 3.0 usb hub for my MBP since most of the reviews i find end up being unfavorable for mac. i use a cheap 2.0 hub in one port for my instruments, which works fine, and then have to dedicate the other to switching between my external SSD and my super drive.

im curious if anyone has any advice or experience on stable powered 3.0 hubs and mac osx..

I recently bought this hub Amazon.com

The super drive has to be plugged directly into the Mac… I have done a lot of searching around and the only constant answer I found was it needs to be plugged in directly. I also have a WD My Passport for Mac… The hub does not recognize that hard drive. I have an older hard drive (4-5 years) and the hub can read from that drive.

Hope this helps.

idk if it helps but it further confirms my irritation. :stuck_out_tongue:

since they strip u down to 2 USB ports it sure would be nice if apple would support their products with certified peripherals. considering they have the reputation as the “go to” computer for artists, and considering most artists want to use a lot of devices at once.

First off, does your MBP have USB 3.0 ports?

Mine has USB 3.0 ports, I’m assuming his does as well. From my understanding MBP’s from 2012 have 3.0.

yah sorry kwal , im using the latest MBP 15 inch retina with two USB 3 ports (up to 5 Gbps).

Just look on Amazon and see which ones have good reviews. Can’t really go wrong with a powered hub in my opinion. Most will do the job.

After looking carefully at reviews for 3.0 hubs on Mac OS… I haven’t found one that looks like it’s going to be reliable enough to run my external 3.0 ssd.

Here’s a review for a popular 3.0 hub … All of the ones I can find have Mac users reporting problems, that’s why I thought I would ask which ones people are using.
