since my old laptop crashed, i m considering buying a mac.
most exactly the macbook pro with a 15inch screen.
now i m asking myself if i should take the non-glare-screen, but it will cost another 150€ more…
so i wanted to ask if you had any problems with a glare-screen in dj-environment, such as clubs with a lot of lights or am i just exagerating?
because it is already a lot of money…
with the student-programm saving, it is at the limit of the affordable for me.
well i have a 13"mbp with glare-screen and i´d say keep the 150bugs and buy something nice for your lady. i never had any problems with not seing something on the screen or heavy reflections.
I’ve just bought a Macbook Pro and I’ve bunced up for the anti-glare.
higher resolution than the standard (1680x1050 v 1440x900), not that much more cash than the hi-res glossy (£120 compared to £80)
I have had gigs with my previous computer (HP) where I couldn’t see the screen at all due to bright lights/sunlight
for general use also, I find the reflective screen annoying. I can put up with slightly less vibrant colours
I just figured that as I was splashing so much cash (2.2Ghz Quadcore) I might as well get exactly what I want, as hopefully it’ll last me 4-5 good years.
I have 2 MBPs and both have Anti-glare (which is actually nothing more than Apple not sticking the glass on the front.)
…and whilst id probably choose it again, its a bastard to keep the screen clean and you have to be ultra gentle when wiping it. The advantage of the glass is that its easily cleaned and protects the actual screen.
dunno if it actually will work but there is a way to get lost of the glary effect: take some really fine grained sandpaper and wipe it over the screen.
not for gigs but i hate the glossy screen in sunlight. i would always spend the 150 on top. as far as i remember you get a higher resolution along with it, true?
Hey Guys! thank you for the quick and many answers!
In my case, i have to say that my previous laptop had a 15inch screen with a non-glare high resolution screen.
For the resolution, i sometimes had the impression that 1680x1050 is too high for a 15inch, so i think 1440x900 must be sufficient.
For the non-glare screen, in private use i can’t really remember to have used the notebook outside in the last 3 years, so my concern is primarily for the dj-use.
so in conclusion, you can say that as long as the gigs are not outside it does not really matter?
i think i will take the standard version then, thank you!
Hmmm well personally I can’t wait to use Traktor, Maschine & Ableton on a 1680x1050. I was previously on a 1280x800 and the lack of screen estate was a big issue for me.
The only time I’ve thought the screen elements were too small was on a mate’s 1920x1280 15inch Vaio. But he does a lot of Photoshop.
yeah 1280x800 definitely would have been too short!
and i liked the 1680x1050 but i don’t think that i need it personally
(i don’t use any photoshop or so).
I personally think glossy looks a lot better, I have a nonglare netbook that if it gets dirty it looks smudged, looks a lot more dull but my glossy laptop looks amazing, has a shine of colour when using traktor and playing live lights bounce off it, I think it makes the laptop look more expensive!
