Making my shed into a studio

Making my shed into a studio

I have a shed at the top of my garden and I need ideas to do it up. my current set up is techincs 1210 numark mixer trasktor scratch a6 am and speakers and reccently got a good job with deccent income every week so I want to turn it into a studio
heres a some stuff im planning im getting
traktor z2 mixer
mac
Native Instruments Maschine Studio Production
speakers for production
maybe upgrade my current speakers

also Im soundproofing it I need somes ideas of what I can add to this i havnt started anything yet but i really want to transform my shed i need ideas for everything. I also want to get a big screen and a ps4 in there.

what do people think I should get ??im open to anything, DJing, production, security, lighting everything and anything

here are some pics as you can see its a bit off a shthole

bars for those windows and a steal (cough steel) door to start..

You’re a brave man if you go ahead with this.

No way I’d leave my gear in a shed.

Ever.

it would be pretty awkward to try and get my gear over the bushes to the next doors garden then even then thats if they get passed my rotwieller

An alarm system probably!

It’s okay - he’s got a dog and a bush…

no one would get in smart arse, its secure.im here for deccent suggestions

I had my shed robbed, in a quite neighborhood and a secure yard. they literally cut a hole in wall of the shed because they couldn’t get through the door.

remember when people know what you have they will stake you out.

yes I know what youre saying any ideas for mine ? its a brick shed.

Hmmm, i’d go with flood lights, Entrenched machine gun nests, barbed wire and possibly some land mines. A couple of booby traps never hurt anyone either.

On a lighter note, a quick google search produced this.

I was thinking off getting a surround sound for my decks. I want them loud but really clear budget of about 600£ any ideas ?

Im not having any luck searching all i see crap skytec package im looking for a real good soundsytem. is it best to get monitor speakers 4 of them for my decks or pa ,active or what. what do people recomend I want 4 or more speakers but a high quality product. that can be loud and quality sound

My dad’s concrete shed was also “Secure” until they ripped the fucking roof off and stole everything, including a ride on lawn mower.

It is NOT secure.

if you’re going to sound proof you need to seal it up 100%. Soundproofing is done by creating an air tight room. This means you’ll have to take a step back and take all the plywood off the walls & insulate with a sound proofing membrane. There are multiple ways of obtaining this air tight seal. Google that. Exterior motion lights are a really good way to keep people away. If they can be seen, they generally won’t want to be in that area for theft. An alarm system thats connected to your house is also a really good idea.

Also, when you sound proof, don’t forget to do the ceiling. Good luck with this project. Don’t let people sway you from your ideas but do take precautions. Insurance , lighting, locks & even the position of this unit will play a big role in whether or not it will get rolled.

I think surround sound is a horrible idea, get a good set of studio monitors and work your producing and djing off that, “loud” shouldn’t be what you’re after but rather “quality.”

Surround for DJ’ing…ehhhh I wouldn’t recommend. Two speakers will be fine.
Surround sound for your gaming…YES!!!

Now, here’s some things I would consider that aren’t mentioned:

  • wiring solution. I have my power and wiring consolidated and hidden in my studio. makes it feel ‘fancy’
  • baffling/sound proofing. You can use foam if you wanna keep it on a budget. Just trying to deaden and reduce standing waves
  • cool DJ lighting…use your imagination but any laser or LED lighting will just increase the fun factor
  • something comfortable to stand on. check into a ‘chef’s mat’ or ‘cashier’s mat’. They are cushioned and your back will thank you
  • something to keep the dust out of your equipment. a towel, decksaver, or anything else thats soft or durable will help
  • compressed air to clean the stuff with when it does get dirty. and it will, don’t say it won’t
  • a nice chair for when you aren’t standing
  • somewhere for your guests to sit

I’m sure I’ll think of more when I go back and look at your pics again

word, I dig having a 20" disco ball in my studio!

thanks for the suggestions !!!

LOL @ teknik1200…I know right! Black lights are standard and some inexpensive lasers at my house. Makes for great after parties when we leave the club

Sure thing! Be sure to keep us updated on your progress.

As for sound proofing you can do it either on a budget, or all out. If you’re on a budget, foam placed in correct places will help a bit, but you won’t soundproof as much as you cancel out standing soundwaves and making the acoustics of the room better. If you want to take it all the way, you could build a “room-in-room”, as many do for their home theathers. That way you’ll make the shed pretty soundproof. But remember that windows and doors are big leaks when it comes to sound.

Decorating the place; Make sure that you think of ergonomics, that the desks and chairs are adjustable / correct height for you. Shelving and cabinets for storing things you don’t use to often can be good. If you have room, a couch or comfy chair to just relax and enjoy life and music. Get some good quality studio monitors, best thing to have in a dj/producer-studio. Else it’s just you’re imagination that is the limt, lighting and art/posters etc can make for a good atmosphere.
