Mapping for Pioneer DDJ SB3 for Traktor - URGENT

Done with the adjustments! Also mapped is upper pads row (pad1 to pad4) of Deck A and Deck B Fade Fx pages which is now the Beatmasher effect. Note that this mode uses FX Unit 3 and you can apply the Beatmasher to only one Deck at a time. If this pad fx concept works we could chose which of available effects should be included in the layout and maybe map all eight pads.

Hope it works

Thanks a lot for your work Stewe, my controller was not recognized anymore by the program yesterday (don’t know why) Today i will try to reinstall it and i will test the new mapping version
thanks again for your help

Glad to help out when ever the mappings for Traktor are not available!

Let me know what you find.

Hello,
Yesterday i was testing the mapping, and we are really close!
The only problem was the jogwheel, it looked to heavy/ less sensitive, the auto-loop didn’t work, and the efects buttons were mapped for the wrong button.
Everything else is now perfect.
Thanks a lot

Alright - moving on! Here is what I could do for this version:

-fixed jogwheels (please test them with and without the ā€˜vinyl’ button)
-added looping (autoloop, dec/inc the size)
-fixed effect on buttons (Button 1 is ā€œbutton#1ā€ if group fx mode and ā€œUnitONā€ if a single fx mode)

I assume that Pad Fx worked out fine?

Cheers,

Stewe, it’s working now, i can use the controller next week, thank you so much!

Talking about the pads (fx fader, and fx scratch), i don’t need them, but they were working better on the original DDJ RB mapping, you can take from there to be perfect mapping.
The hot cue pads are perfect.

Everything is fine by me, but if you want to have a 100% mapping, just fix those Fader and scratch and you can upload the file to the community.
Thanks again, if you need me to test something just say
Cheers

Great mapping already Stewe, cheers for your time. As mentioned, the Scratch effects seem off, the controller does the motion, but it ends up generally pushing forward more than pulling back so you edge away from the beat it was scratching. I have little use for this but it might be easily fixed for others knowing this part… Also, the effect knob is just doing wet/dry currently, I guess it might be best also controlling the amount of all 3 effects at the same time and just letting us set the wet/dry to how we want it… Both are definitely useful ways of controlling the effects but both limited due to lack of additional knobs. Personal preference means I’ll just redo the knob myself as I’m sure many others find it more useful as wet/dry…

Personally I did pick it up to have the option of a 4 deck setup though so I’ll have to continue with 2 for now at least, or move to Serato for a while (have a full license anyway so could do easily)

Again, cheers for the hard work

Thanks a lot Guys for your great feedback on the mapping!

I just did a double check the provided mapping for RB and there were no commands involved for PadFX and PadScratch pages. That is why I mapped the Insta Beatmashers. If you manage to find correct file I could look in to add those two pages.

I absolutely agree - I will change this!

Once we have complete two deck mapping we can look in to adding more decks.

Hey Guys, I made some additions and attached the new version. If you can think of anything else that could be useful to you just let me know. This is what I got:

-Added Loop Move function. If loop is active you can hold down Shift and press the Loop Size buttons to move that loop around the track based on your loop size value. And when Deck isn’t looping, you can perform a Beatjump in the same way (Shift+Size).

-Added Deck Master Selector function. (Shift+Sync)

-Remapped FX knob. Instead of controlling Dry/Wet you can now adjust all three parameters at once.

-Added Dry/Wet control. (Shift+Jog Nudge)

Just one quick question for you guys - does the tempo fader has a center de-tent?

Cheers,

Heading to work shortly so can’t test today’s version yet, but I have a feeling that the scratch is automated from the controller and not the software. It still does the same patterns but the amount of each direction seems to be out a little which means it pushes forward more than back. It also tries to go to a random but constant cue point, I can’t figure out how it picks, but it will only go to that cue once picked even if I have 8 at.

Keeping this in mind, it’s quite possible that they did similar with the fader effects. Press toggles, hold toggles and applies a filter (the volume fader is automated so perhaps the effect part is the only midi signal that needs mapping?).

I’m sure I can find a program to report back what midi signals are being sent out tonight as I recall there were such programs to capture it back when I first got a vci 100 so I’ll let you know what it reports to the computer…

Cheers

When I tested the existing maps (SB2 or RB) the pads were working fine on scratch and FX fade effects (i remember the effects button and the volume were automated). Sorry i’m not sure which map was correct.
I agree with the Tsunami on the feedback, but everything is fine for me to use it

Sorry, just seen with the pitch fader question, yeah it has a resting point in the middle =)

If the ā€œPad Scratchā€ midi is automated in the controller it should be easy to map in Traktor. I can post something regarding pad scratching for test if anybody is interested.

Thanks for your answer - my plan was to set a Shift+Tempo command to reset the BPM - nice to know that the center detents are already built in.

Updated to v.0.1.4

Hey Guys,

I made emulation of SB3 Pad Modes with my Maschine Jam hardware in order to complete this mapping. Function vise it’s gonna be close to Serato mapping because I’m not sure about the Pad Scratch mode and that’s where I need your help

The SAMPLER mode is now updated to all eight pads with LED feedback. And for TRANS mode I plan to map the tone play feature.
The PAD SCRATCH currently is mapped to Pad1 only (first pattern) only to test the behavior. I’ve added the ā€œJog Turnā€ mapped it to correct midi note and set interaction mode to Relative. It would be absolutely amazing if it works. If not it’s no biggie, at least all other modes will be populated with many functions.

Best,

Hi Stewe, the scratch pads are working fine
Cheers

WOW! That’s amazing. I’m going to upload this on maps then.

Thanks for checking it out.
Best,

Tried it out last night in a live gig (I knew I could switch to Serato if needed, but it was a quite night either way so it didn’t matter that much)…

Pitch faders are hard takeover, so if you’ve used Sync as a quick get out of jail set the bpm, you will need to be careful about pitch slider initially. (I’m used to most only taking over after you have come back to where the pitch fader is set in the software)

Shift+platter does not skip forward like I am so reliant on currently.

The auto HPF/LPF mix section works the same as on Serato which is great, the scratch emulation only really works on the simple scratches on pad 1/5 as the others push forward by too much still… In fact, it felt like the speed of my own scratching was slightly out, perhaps by as much as 10% and it just didn’t feel natural at all…

Sampler section and deck3+4 still empty as Im sure you are well aware

Overall, it’s certainly usable and honestly saves me a tonne of work if I decide to stick with Traktor (I coded several controllers years ago but the time input needed is always a daunting task)… I feel I have to stick with Serato for now, even if it can’t searched based on folder names (something I had been doing for years - like saving tracks in an _edits folder so I could just search for _edits and find them all quickly >.> )

Hi, thanks for the mapping! I’ve used it a few times and everything works great for me apart from the cue feature for the headphones. I can’t get it to play the inactive deck’s track on its own, I just hear the master out and then when I press the cue button it simply plays over the top.

I tried it in Serato and the master button just under the headphones knob switches between isolating the cue track and then playing the master out sound.

Any ideas on if this can be fixed for Traktor?
Thanks

What seems to be the issue? I used Seek Position command which always worked great.

Scratching with MIDI will always be slightly off due to mapping low resolution midi message.

I just double checked the mapping and Sampler and it looks like the sample cells are already mapped in. As for deck C and D control it will have to wait until I have some free time again.

It could be fixed by mapping cue/mix command to your ā€œMasterā€ button. I’ll put this in notes.
