Mapping ideas

Mapping ideas

So i have a NanoPad first gen, and im just in need for more ideas in the map i am using. It is to go along side another controller other than cues, loops and basic effects - What other stuff can i add to it, considering i have 12 buttons, 6 and 6, and i may be able to encorporate a shift button so it is 2 x 5 by 5.

Any ideas?

I have some layout stuff mapped on my X1, a play+ rec button, lfo reset, FX bank select, backwards loop. Just look over all the mappings available on Traktor Bible and see what others have done.

Hey photojojo, in what sort of situations would you normally use the lfo reset if you don’t mind me asking? I thought the LFO in traktor synced quite nicely with the beat

it does sync good. I use it to restart it for a different feel to the effect rather than just letting it run out.

Nothing fancy, but check the videos on my YT page (link in sig). Might give you some ideas.
One uses a little delay, flanger, and phaser at 0 (chained). Using the LFO reset you can restart the sound at it’s lowest “pitch” in time with the tune.

Almost forgot, did you read through the sticky in this forum Mapping tips tricks etc ?

Thanks for the input guys(:

Yeah i did, i i just want some really cool effect chains or other ideas i can implement into the last 12 buttons that i have avaliable.

Beatjumps. I used it alot when i had my nanopad

i seem to use beatjumps a lot - probably more than hot cues.

also some “instant effects” might be cool - so like loading+enabling effects from a single button - like the (over used) echo freeze effect etc.

What is beat jumps? as in beat mashing or what?

literally what it says on the tin… skips forwards or backwards the number of beats you specify. i have + and - 4, 8, 16, 32 buttons mapped on my launchpad usually with them beat jumping backwards by default and fowards if i also press shift.

nice to repeating a section or getting back to somewhere u want to be if u dont already have hot cues setup for them. and just seems less hassle and more spontaneous than using loops to me sometimes.

Ok, sounds interesting. So what do i map to get these?

oddly enough it’s called “beatjump” :stuck_out_tongue:

for a quick look at most of what you might want to map - this is the config file i’m using with my mapping software for traktor:

http://djism.com/lua/traktor.lua

ignore the CC numbers at the end - they’re specific to what i’m using it for - but the names on the left are pretty much the names you get from within traktor.

in that page is most of what you can map for decks A+B and sample decks C+D

ahhh. found it. It was hidden under my task bar :stuck_out_tongue:

So, how exactly do you map / control it then? I don’t have my controller with me at the moment to experiment.

i assume the sizes control the size of the loop, and the loop starts / stops it looking, but What does the Fine/Ultra Fine functions do?

Thanks(:

the sizes control how many beats it will jump. just add a control in the mappings editor in traktor - click ‘learn’ and then press the element on your control surface you want to be linked to it. or enter manually if needed.

fine and ultra fine move fwd/backwards by much smaller amounts - less than 1/16th of since thats an option in itself. i think +/- loop are to skip between diff loops but havent actually tried those.

Beat jumps can be like instant remixes as long as your grids are on. Endless encoders rock for beat jumps!!

Thank you so much

Any other ideas anyone :stuck_out_tongue:

definately agreed on the ‘instant remix’ thing. i havent tried endless encoders for them tho - not that i have many in my controllers anyway…

just look through the list on that url i posted - pretty much everything is there - and the names in traktor are quite sensible.

There’s some good stuff in there. Cant wait till the full site comes out :stuck_out_tongue:

Any chaining ideas though?
