Maschine and Traktor X1

Maschine and Traktor X1

Ok new to all this so please bear with me. Can you use the Maschine and X1 together. Just those two items, maybe a 2nd X1. All I’ve seen is a video on youtube showing them working together, scrolling through music and stuff, but I would like to know how they SOUND together. No tables or other controllers. Just these 2, well maybe 3, and of course the software doesn’t count, lol. Thanks and sorry if this has already been threaded.

Neither of those have soundcards so there is no sound coming from them. Basically they’re just dumb controllers that you map to control the software. You will need a soundcard such as an NI audio 2 to use those with software. Everything would connect to your computer via USB and your audio would come out of the soundcard.

First rule of midi controllers - They have nothing to do with the sound.

They are like a mouse and keyboard, just sending control signals to the computer. Your question is like asking if your new mouse will improve the picture quality when playing video games :stuck_out_tongue:

I wouldn’t look to get the maschine if you just want it for DJing. When you buy a maschine you’re paying for a piece of production software as well- making it a hell of an expensive item if all you want is the controller.

Unless they have a soundcard in them.

Then it’s the soundcard you’re talking about and not the controller technically :stuck_out_tongue:

Two units, one chassis!

I understand the need for a soundcard. I guess I should’ve been clearly and I’m sorry for that. Can I use the X1 with the Maschine for music production. Along with the soundcard and computer and software. I guess the thing is I wouldn’t want to buy something unnecessary just because it’s cool. I already made that mistake once lol.

It might help if we knew if you intended to use any other software. Yes you can use them together for production, but you’ll have to put the X1 in midi mode to map it to whatever DAW you’re using. There’s no real need for the X1 if all you’re using is the Maschine software since the Maschine already has a great 1 to 1 mapping with the software. If you’re using traktor then you can use both of them together and have several mapping options available to you.

Awesome. Thanks

The machine isn’t a great controller without a supplementary controller or analogue mixer for levels and EQs though. I wouldn’t get it by itself, unless you want to manage your volume + eqs with a line of encoders.

he wants it for production.

I assumed he was interested in both DJing and production, oh well.

For production the maschine controls the maschine software which is basically a software MPC with some plugin support and a huge sample library. It is possible to write entire tracks using only maschine but most people will export to a DAW (logic, protools, live) to do a final mixdown because you will have a better mixer and more control over the tracks.

The x1 is really built for digital DJing with traktor. You can use it as a production controller in midi mode but personally I would go with something else. There’s mixer type controllers for working with mixing decks and obviously keyboard controllers for synths. The x1 really doesn’t help with either unless you are just controlling a couple pots. As a traktor control though the x1 is a fantastic piece of gear.
