Can’t work out which is the best set up for me, so hopefully you, the people, can help me.
Current setup consists of MBP, Maschine MK2, 1.8software, Kontrol x1 MK1 (which i picked up for a give away price being that they are old news) and a Nocturn 25.
I’ve tried the maschine and traktor sync as found recently on the blog, but due to using the internal soundcard, it dies immediatly.
If i were to use the following setup for Traktor Fun:
Z1 or Z2
X1 mk1
Maschine
And the following for Maschine:
Z1/Z2
Maschine
Nocturn 25
I would have enough usb slots for both setups, still be reasonably portable (especially with the z1), but would i fall short on any controls? The only think that i would miss would be a jog wheel for traktor, but i could possibly throw in a reloop contour or the like, but then i need a usb hub as i would go oven. What setups do others have similar? Really struggling with what to do.
Advice Abuse and Questions all welcome, need some 3rd party input to decide.
What are you going to use the maschine for in Traktor setup? Also, Z2 has built-in USB hub, so that could help if you want to expand your setup later. Z2 also has 2+2 mixer controls, so if you’re going to use remix decks you might want that.
But…
If you’re not going to need scratch compability, stand-alone mixing capability and those ‘+1’ decks (only volume control)… Then go for Z1 and save that few hundred $, since your X1 already has loop, hot cue and FX controls.
However, if you’re planning to use remix decks, DVS and possibly external sound sources (TT, CDJ), then Z2 might be worth it.
After which i had a play around, and since i play a lot of techno, electronica and minimal, came out with some cool stuff which i haven’t really played with before, simply with just loops and playing with sounds i had already made in traktor.
For the price difference, i think although the z2 is more, it offers better value for me for the reasons you mentioned. Quite excited now!
