Michael Funke’s Setup
My main setup. I use the Hercules, X1, and Audio 2 when space is limited.
Nice clean set-up! Do you scratch?
Thanks. I’ve been practicing scratching and beat juggling quite a bit lately. I’m not the best turntablist, but I’m learning.
I’m waiting to see what the new Midifighter is all about, as I want to add one for remix deck control. I’m also planning on getting a foot switch for use with the loop recorder.
Are they clear timecodes or some sort of glow in the dark timecodes, they look awesome!
They are black and white Beedle Butter Rugs and clear Traktor MKII vinyl. The slipmats will stay nice and clean if you only use them with the timecode. Otherwise, I switch to black ones for regular vinyl.
I figure it’s time to update this thing. Got an Odyssey flight case for my 707 as well as an Ultimate Support laptop stand that fits nicely between the case and the lid. Also got a Midi Fighter Spectra for remix deck control as well as this robot arm looking thing from a yard sale to hold it and the X1.
Sold the Hercules and bought a PL-1 controller so that I can run a midi + analogue mixer setup for gigs in small booths as well as control remix deck functions.

Nice how do you like the subs? Currently my mobile setup are alto ts15 and then a 15 sub by alto… I’m torn between Yamaha dx15 or a behringer 18 sub to add as well one sub is not enough for the alto 15s they are very loud and have used in a 300+ person environment and was satisfied along with the people there satisfied and it was under not ideal accustics tin building
I’ve listened to all the subs that my local Guitar Center carries, and the Harbingers were by far the best. That amp is rated for 5kws and I have them connected in parallel on two channels at four ohms. These subs are only rated for 400w, but they really like closer to 600-700 watts RMS. They only sound better with the more power you push through them.
The subs are rated down to 32hz, but I have mine set to 48db BW @ 39hz. The lowpass/highpass between the tops and subs is set to 48db LR @ 74hz. I have found that the Alto’s like to be crossed low. I was getting some harshness from the horns when crossed around 80hz, but crossing lower really smoothed things out. The subs also like it too, as the drum kicks really hit you. All in all, it’s a fantastic setup and a pleasure to listen to loud. I don’t think that I could have come out any better for what I spent.
Nice and yes the horn on these altos really likes to loud I’m likely going to pickup a eq to throw on my 15s maybe see if can’t clean up the highs.
How much are you looking to spend? Because that balanced Minidsp that I linked to is only $125 and has several pre and post crossover parametric eq’s, as well as a huge graphic eq depending on which plug in that you use.
I just got their Umik-1 calibrated USB mic for $80. Minidsp has partnered with Room Eq Wizard and designed their software’s to interact with each other. So setup and tuning is easy. I’ll post more pictures when I get to my computer.
I think when I Was initially tossing the idea around for some altos you suggested I try mini dsp I may have to look into that again because the 15s highs are so over powering but if I adjust eq even on mixer some I can overcome this so most time I spend a few minutes before live kind of tweaking the eqs and going but would be nice having a preset dsp that I can set and kind of forget
