you cant go wrong with a sm57-58 its the best mic you can get for the price !!! VERY solid
+1
I second the Shure SM57. You won’t get better for such a low price, infact it pisses on some of the more expensive mics for general use.
I’m thinking a plain and simple Behringer mic that costs too little will be more than enough to handle ‘the Mouth’ properly.
If that’s not up to your standard, go for the Shure SM57. It’s a surefire!
sm57 or sm58? from what i read on the shure homepage sm58 seems to be better for vocals and therefore for the mouth too. ![]()

I know everyones already said it, but shure SM57 is perfect, ive seen guys using beating the crap out the floor with one of these things and still manage to get a perfect tone out it.
58
The “One” is kind of a waste. Its an audio interface with a mic. Apogee makes great stuff, but I would get a real mic.
Like others said Shure makes some great mics. I have the sm57 and love it. Go with something like that!
Once again I would want to make one thing clear:
You’re going to adapt sound through the mouth.
My best guess is most people, even on these boards, will probably not hear the difference between a “DJ headphone used as a mic” recording and a real mic recording when running it through the mouth.
i use my sony ecm77b for some string and woodwind instruments…but a tad out of your price range. superlux do a good budget mic similar sounding to the sm58, but with a tighter pickup pattern
don’t overlook the samson c01 though![]()

don’t know how robust they are though?but i’ve been recommended this.they come in usb and phantom.
Shure SM58 is a beast of a mic. I’ve had one for over a decade and it still sounds great.
+1 sm58, just ordered one monday for the kid’s screamo band (rolleyes)
here’s a great post that was brought up in a 57 vs. 58 thread here…

"I was a microphone engineer at Shure.
The SM57 and SM58 are essentially the same, except that the SM57 was intended mainly for instruments and the SM58 for vocals. The SM58 has a ball grille that acts as a pop filter. The two mics have the same proximity effect at the same miking distance.
Because of its smaller grille, the SM57 lets you get closer to it for more bass boost. But if you are 2 inches from the diaphragm in either mic, they have the same bass boost.
They have a slightly different response at high frequencies because of the acoustical effects of the different grilles." - Bruce Bartlett
thanks people, i will go with the sm58. ![]()

I’m soooo glad my son’s not into the whole screamo thing. I’m much more comfortable with him being in a punk band. ![]()
