If you mean weddings/funerals/birthdays etc … then yes, even corporate events warrant having a microphone in your toolbox - not having one “just in case” in these circumstances (company raffle/speches etc) looks unprofessional even if you don’t plan on doing any talking yourself.
Word of warning though - Don’t show anyone you have it unless you need to or you’ll be expected to use it for every request.
i use a shure beta 58, with an sm58 for backup more expensive than the sm but the quality is leaps ahead, i also have a really old electrovoice pl95a, a cheap kam, and an old 50’s vintage, i do think a mic is important, but then i play in open format clubs
Alright guys. Didn’t want to pay $100 for the SM-58 and found a super nice equivalent.
The GLS audio ES-58 from SpeakerRepair.com seems to be an excellent buy for 30 bucks. Here’s the link to the model I bought. The On/Off Switch doesn’t cost any extra at all, which is fantastic.
I’ll test it and make a formal review sometime soon to let you guys know how it is. The Hyperlink at ES-58 leads directly to the product page.
If you do buy yourself one, please mention my forum username here in the “Where have you heard of us” slot. I am in no way receiving incentives from this at all.
