MID Clock-MIDI SYNC-WHY???

iv been learning about midi sync after getting in touch with Maschine and Traktor SYNC…and today i saw Xone 4D and midi sync…
why its really necessary…?what are the advantages getting doing that…?between what what hardware it should do?
