Another vote for SketchUp. I use it for all of my conceptualization. While the SketchUp models are a little crude, you can find some great free Ruby scripts and plugins to help you make your models more organic (try here to start - Must Have Ruby Plugins - Visual Index | sketchucation ).
And if you’re working with a completed PCB layout and want to do basic ID, there are several tools that will allow you to import your completed PCB (in IDF or Eagle files) into SketchUp so you can model around it. Check out EagleUp ( http://eagleup.wordpress.com/ ) and PCB Converter ( http://www.designspark.com/sketchup ).
what a bummer, looks like I will have to go down the order from the US route. im still trying to figure what i want from my controller but it needs a good brain at the moment im building one from a usb keyboard, as soon as i can find some buttons i like…
also what happened to your CDJ2k alike build? still going? I can see my build taking a while, I will start a thread my self once I know what im doing with it…
To be honest, I’m waiting for the Behringer controllers to come out as they seem to tick all the boxes. All the new & forthcoming modular style controllers seem to have pretty much killed off the DIY dj midi controller scene unfortunately… but I guess it’s just the hardware companies finally getting round to building controllers that everyone has been dreaming about for so long!
I’m also looking into modding a Raspberry Pi into an mp3/cdj style player but that’s at the very early stages at the moment…
