I was wondering how to go about getting my midi fighter spectra lights to do something like this. Thanks in advance
EDIT: Not sure if my replies are showing up or not but I just wanted to say thanks again to dsquareddan and padi_04 for helping me out. I got everything working exactly how I want it. Thanks guys!
I’ve been doing some serious digging on the matter and the only way I see how to do animations for the leds on this spectra is through Traktor. Is there a way to do this in Ableton? or is there a way to use the LED options from Traktor but be able to play everything in Ableton such as Mad Zach’s soundpacks and ones that I’ve created myself.
it’s an advanced MIDI mapping feature. Depending on your software, you will need to send MIDI notes OUT to the spectra, and depending on the note & velocity you set you can control the color. It takes a while to make the animations as you have to map each individual light and step of the animation.
you can find out more about the midi mapping of the spectra here
In Ableton, to do this, best way is to set up a “dummy clip” of midi on a channel, and have it’s MIDI out channel set to the one outlined in the Spectra documentation.
Works pretty much the same in the 3D and Twister, just make sure right device and channels are selected as outputs and you enabled Track Out in live’s MIDI preferences window.
The following Ableton project should be a nice guideline.
Set off (rim) state to black and on state to white (button). If TRACK OUT is enabled you should be getting it already, make sure you are pointing it to the right channel too (ch.3 by default)
So do I get this right that I have to change the midi notes in the specific program (ABleton, Traktor etc) to make it light up like I want it to?
I want to change the sparkling by default, coz I think the path of the sparkle is wrong with my spectra OR intended to be NOT symmetrical
Yes, you need to have a 3rd party software running in the background, the spark animation is hardwired on the unit and can be either turned on or off but not edited.
Upload a vid of how the spark effect looks on yours and I’ll tell you if it’s showing right or not.
