I’ve been reading through the forum threads on Ikea hacks and I’ve been thinking of making a 2x2 Expedit Book Shelf into a DJ stand. Basically here are the materials I’ll be using:
So what I plan to do is a basic Expedit elevated by Capita Legs and on the rear left and right corners of the top surface I plan to attach Capita Brackets (one on each side) and screw them onto two separate parts of the Expedit Drawer that look like this:
They will be used as elevated monitor shelves. Just wondering…to those experienced IKEA Hackers does this make sense to do? I’m restricted on the width of the space so I chose to try and create the elevated monitor stands for my studio monitors since I can’t use actual monitor stands. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Depending on how big the monitors are I wouldn’t use angled capita brackets, it will put too much stress on the expedit which is basically hollow. Also you will need to get longer metric bolts to screw the capite brackets in since there is barely enough space o screw it in with no washers or anything which I would not do since you want to distribute the pressure. The expedit is made of literally 1/8" plywood bards sandwichhed around so not dense corrugated cardboard. You can just buy a thin wood shelf (stay away from the lack ones which are thick and hollow like the expedit), or just get a piece of wood board that they will cut for you at lowes or home depot and spray paint it which you can screw into. look at the other thread
Has anyone ever put the speakers in one of the Expedit Shelves. I know it’s not the best place to have them but until I buy speaker stand or build shelves into the wall I don’t wanna put any stress on my Laptop shelf and risk it all coming down.
