Mold on controller

Mold on controller

So, yesterday I took my X1 out of my gig bag and found it covered with mold. I’m guessing I packed it while still wet (the booth wasn’t that clean, had some drink spills on it), and that was more than a week ago.

I think it’s still fixable, as the mold doesn’t seem to have gotten beneath the buttons. Any of you got experience with this, and some tips to clean this without damaging the electronics? For the X1 bag (which is covered in it too), I though of washing it in a mixture of water, vinegar and soap. Vinegar is often recommended for washing funghi out of clothes, but I’m hesitant to use it on the X1 too..

Use compressed air

wow thats wild man, I agree with BFly, compressed air is your best bet.

Thumbs up for air.

Compressed air for real? I can hardly scrub it off with my fingers..

I’d use Isopropyl alcohol.

Soap n water is just a big no no. And vinegar is acidic so it might eat into the X1 case/buttons and corrode the board if it gets inside.

can we get a pic? I just wanna see what it looks like

Just so we err… know what we’re dealing with. To assist as best as we can, obviously.

Without seeing a pic another vote for Isopropyl alcohol. If it leaks in the unit it will evaporate

I just use vodka

that is what i would do as well. just make sure it’s fully dry before powering it back on.

+1 on the ISO. Compressed air won’t get rid of the mold.

Use more beer. Or 99% isopropyl. The 99% stuff doesn’t leave a residue behind.

Thanks for the tip, I’ll try isopropyl and report back with the results.
For those curious: here’s a picture.

That is horrid!! Were you DJ’ing down a mineshaft or something? I think the bar you were in needs a pap smear. It’s got some serious fungal issues.

Isopropyl to start with! If that doesn’t work.. Burn the controller and any of your clothing you wore that night. CLEANSE WITH FIRE.

Dayang!

Take the knobs of and scrub them. i usually use a diluted kitchen spray to clean my x1’s

mmm, that’s tasty, I’d lick it clean!

I’d get out the Isoprop with some cotton buds, then maybe run over the surfaces with antibac wipe, dread to think what nasties are having a party on your X1!

Sooo.. The isopropyl seems to have worked, still required a lotta scrubbing but didn’t have any issues playing out yesterday and it looks clean. The X1 bag is mold-free too, but it’s lost a lot of its strenght, I suppose there’s cardboard inside it and it’s gotten soft because of the water. Still seems useable though, so I’m happy overall.

dude glad it worked, that stuff looked horrid.
