Ever since hearing Paul Oakenfold use movie quotes and other speech samples back in the early 90’s, I’ve always enjoyed dropping a few snippets in to a mix.
My question is what quotes do people like to put in to their mixes, either from a movie or a speech. Can we avoid the one’s that everyone uses, like the American Football one and the Martin Luther King speech.
Oh, and anyone who throws down Braveheart’s ‘Freeeeeedom’ because I’m Scottish will be banned from posting in my thread again.
I’m sure I have that somewhere. Might need to look it out.
A favourite of mine is from State of Grace when Sean Penn complains about drinking to much by saying that he is getting up in the morning and putting his socks over his shoes. I’ve got the DVD but never ripped the line to audio.
I love using movie and TV samples in my mixes… If you listen to the Electro Rock mixtrain on here, you’ll hear some good use of Space Balls samples on my section.
Other then that I like using stuff from Star Wars, Robin Hood: Men In Tights, Simpsons, Stand-Up comedy, Dazed and Confused, and many others… Mainly comedy stuff…
Full Metal Jacket ones were good until they got massively overused, especially by wannabe producers thinking they were cool, quirky and different for using them…
I’ve used this as a live intro a few times. Make absolutely NO sense to people listening but I find it quite amusing every time I hear it. I found a better quality version and EQ the lows out a bit so the movie samples stand up a bit more.
Back to the future, horror movies. couple hellraiser quotes " i am the pain", the shining. Did the H.A.L 9000 thing back in the day. WestWorld has some good ones. Willy Wonka. Clockwork Orange. Flight of the navigator. The Neverending Story and so on and so on
