MP3.. do you buy them or

MP3.. do you buy them or…

I buy I guess 95% of my mp3s at different shops (because of availability or price)

what do you guys do?

do you buy them or download them elsewhere like via usenet, soulseek etc?

I buy from juno/beatport, i rip from cd’s and i download some from blogs.
But i stick to 320kbs from blogs. ok sometimes 256, but getting them from other places you can’t really count on the quality. Sometimes they say 320 but they’ve been ripped from a cd that was burnt from an original file of 192…

I noticed that too..
If I keep a 192 it must be a very rare record otherwise I just throw it in the bin.

I buy from Beatport or Spotify (7digital). Try to stick to 320k if possible. If the tunes are restricted I use TPB or other services…

tpb?

spotify: not available in my country! :disappointed:

Please buy them… There are plenty of sites that have different prices for the same track. Sometimes Itunes is the chepest

Pirating is not good for anyone present in this forum… people need to get pay for making music if not this game is no fun.

Dont want to be an ass but if here is a list of legal sotres to buy music, I am sure you will find one you like :stuck_out_tongue:

WOW, what a list of stores, I need to bookmark this thread
good work alien2k!

how good have we got it now.£2 at most for a track that you can own instantly.10 years ago i would pay at least £7 per record and wait 5 days for it.whats the reason for the 5% you don’t buy then.i’m not judging just curious as to why you started this thread(although i’m glad u did as thats a monster list provided by alien2k:smiley:major props)

Buy 95% of them (the others are given to me :stuck_out_tongue: )

The only time I’ll torrent them, is if I picked them up legitimately from somewhere like emusic (which uses fairly crap encoding - fine for an iPod, not fine for a decent system) and I like it enough to play it out, I’ll acquire a higher bitrate version - I figure I own a ‘license’ for the tune, the artist has been paid, and I’ve got a better quality version.

I actually have spun emusic tracks on some awesome systems and they sound mint. Might need to be a little louder, but I never lose anything. They are usually encoded around 200kb/s VBR. It’s not as good as 320, but not total shit, at least for me.

I don’t pay for anything, music, software, films, I even steal the bandwith from my neighbours, everything is free! I love bittorrent!

I try before I buy. Download tracks on what.cd and buy from junodownload or beatport if i like the tracks. Otherwise they are deleted..

Just out of interest if i own a shed load of vinyls that i want to digitalize. Where do i stand downloading ripped copies from the net? If I was to be reported by my ISP then investigated would i get done?

good post, I thought I knew them all but I seem to have missed a few ..dozen :open_mouth:

IMHO you’re free to download an illegal copy.
Why bother converting them if someone else did it for you

My thoughts exactly but then you hear of all these people getting court summons from people just monitoring the fact that you are downloading copyright material.

There are so many sites and forums that just put up music links for leechers, they even leech between themselves. In my opinion finally what you are doing is filling the wrong people pockets. People that earn per click advertisements stealing efforts from others, and ultimately dont give a dime for the cost or time spent on that piece of music. Ultimatley the money goes to another industry that has nothing to do with arts or music…
If you consider yourself that you want to give something back and ultimately make the industry grow… why not spend a couple of $ on it

cus i already did by buying the vinyl… or is that not aimed at me?

Sorry man, not pointing anyone.

I do agree with your point, cause you once bought the music, nothing bad there.

Truth is that if you own a vinyl and download a cd rip you’re still a wrongdoer..
Also, torrents upload automatically. Blogs or rapidshares would be legit if you own the cd.

In the Netherlands there is no law prohibiting the downloading of music, only uploading.
