Mp3 Gain or Platinum Notes?

Mp3 Gain or Platinum Notes?

or None???

I have tried both and ended up sticking with PN regardless of its “steep” pricing.

why PN over mp3?

I like the way that the tracks sound after using PN3. They have more consistency.

But this is truly a personal preference on my part - I would try both and see which one you like the most.

tried both, from my experience mp3gain(default settings) makes the track volume too low and loses quality. Platinum(default settings) notes has better sound quality. Platinum is the better choice from my experience.

Something else I noticed was the waves on traktor get shrunked after running the file through these programs

mp3 gain is a totally non destructive process. platinum notes is, so if your tunes are high quality already (e.g 320 mp3, wav, flac) there is no point using it.
Ean recommends setting mp3 gain to 96db. Remember to use “Track Gain” after analysis.

This is a good point - if you use PN3 be sure to save the original tracks. By default PN3 will create a new file with _PN3 added to the filename.

how does PN damage ur files? doesn’t it make a new file when u apply settings? I would think mp3gain would hurt your files since it doesnt make a new file and just saves right over the original track.

..

but PN makes a new file after the conversion leaving the original alone right?

so for my mp3gain settings, i put 96.0 in “normal” volume correct?
analysis my track before i TRACK gain correct? not album or constant gain right?

yep, PN makes a new file, then its up to you to decide if the new version sounds better or not. I used to use it all the time with low quality vinyl rips etc but tbh if your tunes of of decent quality its pointless. I would say use it for tunes 192 - 256 kbps, anything above wont make a difference.

For mp3 gain, yeah use 94-96 and analyze your whole collection and use the track gain option.

so what’s the better software here jester? not all my files are 320

Well, i would use mp3gain regardless whether you have run the tunes thru PN or not. In your situation i would recommend using PN for only your tracks that are 256kbps or below … leave the 320’s be
The way i do it is run everything through MiK, then mp3gain is the last step in the process before gridding etc. Have not used PN for about 2 years tbh.

is it better to run tracks that are 256 or lower thru PN or mp3gain?

PN is more for fixing clips and dynamics etc. Mp3Gain adjusts nothing but the volume.

i see i see, thx for the advice jester! I think i will run it thru PN first then mp3gain, what ya think jest?

sounds good  (pardon the pun)

I just looked up the price for platinum notes 3, i nearly spit my beer all over the laptop/S4…

yeah im not sure if its worth it atm lol…

I vote none.

Gain knobs made mp3gain pointless like a hundred years ago.

As for PN…if you have problems with your tracks, buy better music.
