What type of music hardware is capable of creating new sounds and beats, aswell as what type of hardware would be best for creating loops on the spot
and the software i use is ableton and traktor
depends on what you want to do… if you just want to capture short loops while playing live you could go with a roland sp 303/404 (if you’re looking for portability go with the 404 or an mpc 500), if you want to create or modify existing sounds/samples i would look to the korg electribes. if you’d prefer something you can integrate with a laptop the ni maschine or possibly the arturia spark would serve you well. it really comes down to what you want to do and how much you’re willing to spend…
sorry for the long post i’m a bit of a sampler/drum machine whore and couldn’t resist
There are many options out there.. what do you want to do with these loops? Incorperate them into a dj set? and how much do you want to spend on this?
Octatrack is a loop monster.
True, been selling the shit out of those! (Some guy even got three of them!). The best thing to do is just bust out Google, youtube some video’s and read some reviews.
i got around 400-500 to spend, and im looking to incorprate it into my live dj sets so i can create beats/loops live
That’s not much to be honest, the only thing near that price point would be NI’s Maschine.
not necessarily, he could snag a new sp-404 or an es-x for that much, or a korg microsampler with some cash left over, depending on where he shops… ![]()
Or an Electribe. Or an MPC 500.
But…his OP was insanely general. I can think of a lot of stuff that fits.
indeed, but based off what he’s mentioned so far, creating beats, loop capture on the fly and for around around $500, sounds like the sp 404 (optional battery power, on board fx, built in mic…) would be a good choice.
id personally get a nice controller and do it all with software. its easier, cheaper, more flexible, more stable. need I say more?
so with the sp 404 do i need an sound card? because i want something that i can plug into my laptop via usb 2.0 and hook it up to ableton or traktor
The MPC is more than capable of doing everything he mentioned. The SP404 only halfway.
He asked about hardware…but apparently he didn’t know what he was talking about.
None of what we’ve mentioned hook up to Ableton.
Do you want hardware or a controller? They’re very different.
true enough but the mpc tends to come with a higher price tag…
the thing about hardware is often times you don’t know exactly what you want to do until after you end up with something that can’t do what you want
my guess is that a maschine (or something close to it) is what he’s after given the desire for daw integration
look at me! i’m a wizard now!! woohoo!
Reading through it sounds like Maschine would definitely be worth having a look at. Gives you good software integration and the ability to do things on the fly
the new MPCs are also integratable with DAWs remember that
The fly won’t be, and the mid-level one will definitely cost over $500.
Its supposed to be the maschine competitor so who knows
Right, but part of being competitive in that market is being taken seriously. They already have the MPC name, so that goes a good way. But it might actually be a smart business move to price it $100 to $200 higher than the comparable Maschines just so they’re not considered budget options.
I also don’t think he wants to wait around for an un-tested piece of gear to drop after NAMM, however awesome everybody thinks they’re going to be.
