My 5yr old...

My 5yr old…

I debated whether or not to post this, but since it’s already on YouTube, I figured it’s fair game.

This was shot last September (2009) on his 5th birthday.

For fear of being labeled a “Stage Parent” I’ve limited my involvement in his learning to only correcting the obvious mistakes (not scratching with your hand too close to the center, needle care, etc…)

most of what he’s learned, he learned from YouTube, watching videos of Q and Mixmaster Mike.

Enjoy!

That’s awesome!

Even I can’t scratch like that XD! Mad skills for a 5 year old!

Hell yeah dude! I have that same old monitor  Looks like I could learn a thing or two from DJ Nathan Cole! Keep it up Dad! Start em early!

thanks photojojo…

I forgot to comment that nathan was essentially taught by the community since his favorites include The 45 King, Kentaro, C2C, and the like. My influence was really giving him full access to large collection of records. Since he was 4, his favorite movies include Scratch The Movie, and Planet B-Boy. He also uses a DVS system, but we’ll save that for later since everyone is still reeling from the Qbert DVS video.

Next stage, learn to uprock.

Cute and awesome.

The boy got skillz

that’s awesome! it’s always great to see someone so young find a passion like that. I always wish i’d found something to do that i loved at a young age.

Child prodigy!

He’s going to tear tables up some day!

yeah but can he beatmatch by ear!!!

…dude that was awesome. It looked effortless.

Thanks so much for the kind words… my son was very happy when I read them to him.

Please check out his YouTube channel, I’ll be posting more recent videos soon.

Thanks again.

mad skillz!

i think i have a new hero! i’m 21 and can’t scratch at all! good job kiddo!

He’s better than Pauly D !

That’s awesome, i’ve always been a big believer in teach em early. Studies have shown kids have very accelerated learning capabilities. Plus I think kids dont have a lot of the concern for if they are “doing it right”, with something like scratching i think that can lead to very creative results.
