My Controllerism Project

My Controllerism Project

So a little bit of background as to why I’m doing this. A Few of years ago while drunk I thought it would be a good idea to cut a hole in my desk I use for mixing and mount my mixer flush did it with a drill and a hack saw!
It looks ghetto as but it worked and it was fun for a while, then while mixing at party’s people would put drinks on the desk an the inevitable happened I lost two mixers to rum and coke.
So i went out and bought some controllers for mixing then i spotted Ean Goldens stuff on you tube which led me to Moldovers excellent work which led me to where I am now.
I am a bit older and wiser now but I’m still a big kid so I’m creating the MIDI DESK Grin!!
Already mounted the arcade buttons in the desk, the whole where i cut just has an old face plate in which i will hopefully fit my linear potentiometers and potentiometers or else i will probably make a housing for those units. I also intend to turn the draws the desk sits on into monitor speakers. any advice/constructive criticism you can give would be much appreciated.
thanks for reading
Thank you and goodnight
much love

ugly table, nice idea though keep us all posted

I’ll 2nd that, the desk looks like it came out of a Silent Hill movie lol. Either way, interested in seeing what you do with it

That’s actually bad ass! I really like the whole idea behind, just have to see how it turns out now.

Good work brother man and keep us posted!

gonna clean the table up a bit get rid of that green stuff and put something like a vinyl plastic, sand down the wood and paint it.

The idea is cool but I’m just thinking that if you’ve lost 2 mixers to rum and coke is building a midi controller desk really the best idea?

This is going to be just for me to play with at home, not playing at parties with this. not that i have played at many parties lately,
this is like a work up to building something like Moldover’s Mojo, when i can afford to fabricate something.

It looks like someone died at that desk.

Props on being original mate..!

what i have done so far.

I have been cracking on cleaned up the desk and painted it and soldered the buttons to the wires. now i have hit a wall where do i a solder the +5v wires on my 2 10 pin cables? then is all i need to do is plug in the wires and usb to a usb spltter and into a laptop and load up the firmware? please help i wanna get the button working today. thank you for your time.

Ahh man i shoulda jumped in earllier, i loved the leather boundness of the desk, a proper gentlemans club controller…

Cheers

arrgh i was going to leave it too but everyone said it was ugly even my girlfriend. it was gettin a but scratched and torn.

I thought you might get it restored, French polish an everything, pretty cool idea though I need to finish my DJ console and like the idea of sinking the arcade buttons into it…

Cheers
d

i just wish i could get the buttons to work i have soldered them all and conected them to the umc32 my computer recognise’s the umc32 but sends no signal to traktor which is wank and i have to fit the mixer plate. i have just bought a sheet of black perspects which i wiil attach to the desk and mount the mixer bits in.

To keep people from putting drinks on it maybe put up a plexiglass perimitter… Nothing real high, just enough to deter people from putting their drinks up there.

I like this idea bro, real original.

I can imagine you sitting there behind the desk in an elaborate smoking jacket and cravat, pipe smoking some quality shag and dropping some real rad moves…Ding Dong!!

the Plastic face plate came!

the Plastic face plate came check it! i think it looks sick can’t wait to get it fitted and the potentiometers fitted. then i just have to deal with the issue of getting it to work.

with some tech support and some miner solder surgery it working well the buttons are anyway

video is not yet processed as i post this but check it when it does and it is off a phone its not great quality but you get the idea.

set up so far and been mixing with putting a new mix up on soundcloud filling up all my time on there gonna have to pay to put more up…knightmare. and i was thinking of buying the midi fighter to add to my setup, and i still have to finish the mixer section.

If your gonna blow money on monitor speakers dont put them where the draws are, monitors only usually have a relatively small sweet spot and putting them where the draws are could be kind of a waste. Id use more traditional speakers with a wider sweetspot for a better sounding setup.

Other than that though, cool project  keep us posted

i have had to drop the idea of making speakers, its just too much work i don’s have the time, might get one of my mates who has just made a huge sound system to do it, just going to put a bass plate on the desk part with some rubber feet and a handle. it will be light enough to carry place’s, if i ever get to playout again!
