My feelings, thoughts and overall review for the Traktor Kontrol S4

you’ve made no mention of callibration, tempo faders or sound issues. have you had any of these issues? i’m hoping they’re not as much trouble as some are making them out to be. i’d really like to get a S4 but am worried i’ll get a faulty unit.

never had a problem. laptop i’m using. mid 2010 mbp 13" 2.4Ghz Core Duo w/ 8GB ram. 500GB, 7200rpm Seagate hdd.

sample rate in traktor 48000, latency adjusted to 192 in settings, for a 9.7ms overall.

i have run all 4 decks maxed out on effects with keylock on, while scratching on one of the decks and i have not had any audio dropouts.

the only thing i do before running traktor is turn my wireless off and eject my time machine drive. i do not have the screen saver running and my computer is not set to sleep or dim the display.

mapping the button would take the place of the crossfader being open or closed.

instead of moving the fader open and closed and moving the “record” to get a particular sound, you would press the button, while moving the record.

older mixers used to have this type of button on them, and a few newer ones do as well. AEM-100, being a notable example http://www.skratchworx.com/reviews/aem-100.php

a similar method i use is the gater fx. get retardedly fast or slow open/close, all with the twist of a knob.

I did the exact thing mentioned previously, with a button.

I have an led for the button as well so I have it:

Open Fader = Lit

Closed Fader = Dim

And the soft takeover for the fader itself is perfect.

I love it, I actually use it for my X1 mixer mapping where all my “faders” are now “rotary” style (knobs) and they all have “transform” buttons.

With about two hours of practice I feel like my cut timing is even better than with the digital faders on my analogue mixer.
