My mixes sound forced
I try and put out weekly mixes, but recently for the mix for this week, the transitions in the mix just sound so forced. I don’t know why. I haven’t really changed how I mix.
What can I do? Or is it just me?

I listen my mixes like 10 times before ı publish it and make changes on it all the time before ı publish.
Maybe they seem like forced, you should ask some people for that too.
It s not only you.Dont worry it happened me a lot times too.
Sometimes you just aren’t in the groove at home, is all. Sometimes you got your mind on other things, it happens.
weekly mix. thats why
^+1
Unless you’re getting tons of new promos that no one else is playing every week there’s absolutely no reason to publish a mix weekly.
Yea no need to do a weekly mix like that. What I usually do is spend a little bit of time mixing every week, but dont make a big deal if its not perfect. after Im done mixing ill go back listen to the mix once and i its not perfect I move on with my life. But when Im gonna upload a mix ill listen to it a bunch of times before uploading and make sure everything sounds good. also usually I wait until I’ve picked up a bunch of songs that I really, really like to make a mix, if youre doing it weekly youre gonna end up playing some songs that are just okay so you dont really wanna mix them, thus it feels “forced” like you said
I guess you could say I’m making a bit of a portfolio
Just keep practicing, try new things and it will begin to come without thinking about it to much.
what do you mean by portfolio? you mean like demo mixtapes? because I dont really think anyones going to take the time to listen to multiple mixes as demos from one person, just my honest opinion
Sounds like you’re just getting a little burnt out. I’d ditch the weekly mixes. You might wanna try to put one out monthly, or every other month.
Unless you’re “known” you’d be luck if anyone listens to more then 10-15 minutes of one. In terms of a promotoer or venue owner, I know for a fact the club I used to be a resident threw away all demo mixes that came in, without even listening or taking the CD out.
So you’d be lucky if most listened at all.
I mean it sucks, but it’s just how it is.
+1 yup
This is simple - your technique is developing at a slower rate than your ability to recognise what is being done well.
You’re learning what sounds good, and what sounds bad.
Just keep at it - keep doing what sounds good, and stop doing/work at what sounds bad.
That’s the learning process.
Mixing is a lot like farting. If you have to force it, its probably shit!
Reply of the week hahahahahaha - actually LOL’d.
/endthread.
Yep. Meditation helps. (no, seriously)
Probably a grain or two of wisdom in there. Definitely worth considering.
Lol. And very true.
Genius. Just Genius.
maybe because your forcing yourself to put a mix out once a week. Don’t force it, let it come to you then put it down.
One thing i learned from youtube, is if you schedule your creative time it’ll become work, and for me its really hard to be creative during work time… I rarely put out mixes, mostly because if your someone that wants to hear me, i want you to hear me live. I’m much better in front of people.
One other thing i learned is that if i do schedule creative time, make a party of it… invite some people, get some alcohol (if you so choose). Make it a social thing… distract yourself from the other stresses in your life and concentrate on your mix and your guests.
