My Mobile Lighting Setup

My Mobile Lighting Setup

Hey Guys!

So i had a huge graduation party coming up, that was just last weekend, and i wanted to do something crazy for lights, since this was like, my breakout gig. So after a little brainstorming with my brother, we came up with building a 3D, portable booth, that we were going to put lights inside. My grandpa, an amazing woodworker, gladly took on the task of constructing this monster of a project. In just a weeks time, i ordered two COLORstrip’s, an obey 40 lighting controller, 4 high powered strobes, and fabric from Oklahoma, we were able to construct this:

As for my setup itself, it is simply an S2, Crane stand, Macbook, The lights i mention, two PEAVEY 115’s, a Crown amp, and a small Mackie mixer incase my (old) mac crashes. I’m going to be getting two NDX 900’s and a midi fighter asap though, since i don’t really like the S2.

Being 14, dj’ing a highschool party, and having everyone so amped, it was pretty awesome. I had girls coming up to take pics with me all night (i even got some up on the speakers haha http://cl.ly/0r1Y2n2P1T3Y0K0v412H), parents telling mine how impressed they were, and the superintendent of our school district (who was there) said he wanted me to do prom, homecoming, etc. So all in all, i though the light show worked out great… You thoughts?

Classy.

That looks awesome, massive props to your grandpa.

its great to see other young djs out there doing their thing. im 14 as well and have done a few gigs  great idea with the booth, you and your grandpa have skills

Thanks! I actually just got the text, i’m locked in for homecoming in september! Along with these cabin club nights things my brother and i are doing in July, August, and September, i’m dying to take this baby out for a spin again!! The funny thing is, the day before my party, these frames were sprawled all over my living room floor, and we were staple gunning the fabric on until midnight lol

Looks great. In the end, the home-made stuff is the best, tailored to your needs!

Looks damn awesome man..

pretty legit man, me and my VJ friend were gonna put something like this together this summer for our shows. I’m gonna kinda use yours as a template :stuck_out_tongue:

Nice!!! The frames are just built out of 2x4’s stripped in half, and the tops fold down, then cover it in Lycra fabric!

thanks man, I’ll keep that in mind

That is a legit DJ Booth! Very nice work on it

Hey. Thanks for sharing and that both is pretty cool. How about some pics of it being assembled/ disassembled? Might give others even more ideas on how to make something like that.

Am I seeing right? Is that a wood frame with a cloth covering?

That looks really, really nice. Add some subs to those PV115’s, though. Those things have no low end on their own. Since your grandpa is a woodworker, maybe check out some Fitzmaurice designs?

The pictures and vids look a lot better than the description made it sound. I went from “what the hell” to “that is effin cool”. You gotta post some detailed shots bro.

Hey I need help on how you positioned your 2 colorstrips, I’m wondering which way they were facing to fill that whole thing

Holy crap, that’s amazing. Big props to you dude. Could add some pictures of it showing the setup?

Very nice job… makes a big difference

Hey, sorry, been away from the forums for a few days! I just have them angled slightly outward, and upward, pointing about halfway up the booth, and the lights themselves are a few feat back from the frame… hope that helps!

how so?

Show some pictures of “behind the scenes”. How the frame is built and put together, what the coverings are made of, where the lights are placed, etc. I’d really enjoy that.
