My S2 performance routine & review

Hi all,

I’ve had the S2 for a while now and I put together a video to show it off as well as provide my review on it.

Hope you enjoy. Free custom mappings coming later this week.

Great vid production and a really really good routine that was not the usual ass rape of over use of effects, that was just right.

Good use of the loop recorder…Just starting messing with that last night, actually I’ve had my s4 for about 4 months and last night made some huge progress so now I’m looking for routine ideas…

Also +1 for zeds dead

Thanks guys. As simple as the routine seems it wasnt easy putting it together I did some switching back and forth between midi mode which enabled me to get more kontrol. Haha.

So when you say you were switching between native and midi you mean that you wouldn’t have had to on an s4 :wink: haha…maybe Im wrong or I didn’t catch what I thought you were doing.

Oh no. Sorry. What I meant to say was that in midi mode I have a whole custom rack of transition effects.

  1. Delay to echo out
  2. Sweep & Drama effect
  3. Beatmasher with Reverb combo
  4. Faux Timestretch as seen on the end of the routine (beatmaster in advanced with some specific settings).

So even if I had used the S4 I would still need to hotswitch out to get to those custom effects or create a really complex native mode mapping.

I use a canon t2i with a tamron 17-55 2.8 lens. I also used a 50mm prime 1.8 for some of the beauty shots.

The images you see on the board are screengrabs from the video file.

I hope NI pays you because you almost convinced me to buy an s2, and I sold my s4 for a mixer and turntables, haha.

Right after I said that I went back and watched the video more closely and saw those effects being used…I thought you were mapping the sample decks to something but realized thats built in the mapping…I’ll watch it again but basically your transitions are based on one knob controlling 3 parameters?

Yeah. It also controls and activates the echo out. It’s a combo that I designed a while back. Look it up on my YouTube, under create swee drama effects. I show you how to map it out in detail in that video.

Nice review, i think at this point if you want 2 deck controller best thing to get would be s2. I want to upgrade to 4 deck tho, as I have a 2 deck controller. Vci-400 or S4, will decide soon lol.
