Well namm 2014 is coming up in 9 days. And usually when dj companies especially native instruments is as tight lipped as they have been usually this means some major release. (Yea probably wishful thinking but who knows)
What do you guys think we may see dj wise at namm 2014 in Cali this year? Do you think there will be anything major headed this way sometime soon? How about a pioneer ddj tx? Or a actually new dj controller from native instruments.. (again wishful thinking). What do you think?
considering that Mark from djworx gets insider information in the weeks leading up to the major shows and just wrote an article regarding all the new ideas now being dried up, I think you will be out of luck… unless all the big manufactures are keeping it from him, but that’s doubtful. The only highlight I can see coming is yet another teaser of VDJ8 pre beta, but even that is unlikely.
I can’t see anything coming from Numark as they just released the most expensive most feature packed controller on the market. Pio have just released the SR and SB, denon just released the 6000mk2, vestax has been quiet for some time but with the money they would have lost from the VCI-400 I think they will be quiet for a while. Reloop have released a mixer and ipad controller and they have everything covered from a controller perspective. And with a release of an upgrade to Traktor I can’t see them launching a new version and the Maschine has just been released so I can’t see any new controllers from them for a while until they move some units. Serato has to deal with it’s software going into public beta so that’s locked in for a while before anything new comes from them. And Behringer will probably stick with the CMD series for a few more years.
I think it’s going to be a quiet NAMM unless one of the minor companies brings something out, but stuff from those sort of companies are usually built to copy existing controllers to a tighter budget and not aimed at the exciting end of the market.
btw.. Native Instruments is always tight lipped so there is no reason to get excited.
I think what a lot of people would like to see is Traktor working with all the new controllers. NI will NEVER get people to use the controllers the mixers they dictate. Serato seems to have all the best controllers at the moment. Lots of people love the S4 but want a unit thats built like a tank and isn’t going to be updated in 18 months.
As a VDJ user are you not fed up with this VDJ8 release? How long has this been coming out..?
As a casual user of VDJ on Mac I’m just soooo bored waiting for the karaoke rotation plugin… i mean Apple screw up iOS7 and NI have to take a feature out of TDJ and the world goes into melt down but VDJ have been promising VDJ8 and the Mac rotation plugin for longer than I’ve had pubes (slight exaggeration but no more that peoples exaggeration of NI delays
There really isn’t anything to come at Namm AFAIK.
Traktor works with any midi mappable controller.
NI have sold that many S4’s etc that they have no reason to care about other manufacturers controllers.
Unless someone comes out with something groundbreaking and want NI in on it then it will be business as usual.
What has anyone else made that is so special that NI have missed out on being tied to? Certainly no Pioneer controller.
If NI should do anything they should Certify more upcoming DJ hardware mixers but I don’t see this happening anyway.
Controllers, controllers… they are everywhere… enough already.
Maybe i worded my post badly. I still think most people want to pick there controller & software combo and i don’t think they want to here things like works well but not as tight as S4. You are right though NI do not have to care. Denon for instance make some incredible decks but i still have to jump through hoops to make the 3700s work with Traktor but, i do because i love the decks. I would love the spinning platters to be midi mapped to Traktor & be as tight as the S4 platters. But thats just my thoughts.
Absolutely Karlos, I have been very vocal in the VIP forum about how Atomix should just take some responsibility and give a real indication of when the software will be released, I wouldn’t care if they said it’s still a year away because it would squash the tension of waiting for an indeterminate amount of time. Now they have done it again by saying that the final beta is about to start… I just think that the Atomix CEO has no concept of customers needs or timeframes because the decision to keep quiet would be ultimately his responsibility. I think he used to run PCDJ and look what happened to that…
I got so annoyed I started using Traktor , It does all the little things much better than VDJ, It’s just that I like messing with the big things and still have confidence that the software side of things will get the basics right, and the more advanced features will blow the competition away.
To be fair, Atomix is a VERY small company with limited resources. I’m not trying to make any kind of excuse for their early announcement of VDJ8, but I do understand that sometimes things don’t go according to plan. I know this is frustrating for a user, but imagine how frustrated the guys at Atomix are. They have a lot riding on this release.
Absolutely agree, I just think they made a big song and dance when they must have known they were nowhere (really nowhere) near release. 6 months delay, fair enough but this is what, 18 months now? My stats could be sketchy but it seems like The Bridge all over again.
Funnily enough I really hope they nail VDJ8 (despite my involvement with Traktor) which is why I just wish it would happen but as said, there is a lot if not ALL relying on this release. I have learnt that VDJ isn’t the pile of crap that most would have you believe but VDJ8 has to be so bloody good out-of-the-blocks or people will continue to dismiss it as an also ran.
I actually know the guy that develops the plugins for VDJ (he DJ’s for a club chain I also DJ for) and I have tested a few new plugins for him in the past so I know they are under pressure and probably under staffed but the Mac rotation plugin is so long overdue its like the NI equivalent of ‘Smart Playlists’ in Traktor… long called for, long over due.
I do understand that they are a small company of about 10 people And definitely understand delays, but we were never told of any delays. I think now they are in a situation where everything has to be ground breaking and working perfectly on release to capture any attention from potential new customers. Meaning we have to wait longer and get more frustrated. It’s a vicious cycle that could have been prevented with just a little more information on progress.
As I recently said in the general VDJ forum look at “the one” and “deckadance” being released before they were 100% ready for the current marketplace which is very fickle and very hard to satisfy. Audio Artery and Image-line have essentially wasted millions on wages that they are unlikely to ever recover from sales to the public. I don’t want to see Atomix go this way as I love the software so I accept having to wait two and a half years for the new version, but I don’t like the agree with the decisions made by the management to say simply “it’s ready when it’s ready” as that only leads to frustration. I’m sure you received the brunt of that being the product manager of the CMD controllers Craig.
It should be out in under six months though so not too much longer to wait.
