Need help with FW upgrade…

When i try to do the upgrade, i cant select the right com port in the Flash Development software, can you please help?

So, i do all of the steps necessary, like in device manager, but i have nothing, it doesn’t have the COM in the drop down box, anyone? Help much appreciated…

Tell us more about your setup, computer, os, etc…

Windows seven, with a Dinex Serial to USB connector, and a custom built pc… is that good?

Anyone, i can’t believe it’s not working, im so angry.

Which Dynex cable? I had the same problem, but I think switching to a Dynex DX-UBDB9 cable from Best Buy solved that one.

I have that same cable…

… the Dynex DX-UBDB9 one.

When you plug the cable in do you see it in the device manager? Do you have the cable plugged in when your trying to select the com port? I’m trying to rack my brain to see if I can remember anything else that led to the no com port option and what fixed it. I tried my FW upgrade on two different computers with two different cables.

i will take screen shots…

Image one is the device manager image, and so is two. Image three is the image that the devtool shows, (i cant see the com port in the drop down…)

I think the com port needs to be higher than 3. Try setting it to com 4.

How to change the com ports from this thread
if you must use a USB to Serial, read this

If you are using a USB serial cable plug it in to a USB port

Now run device manager, if you don’t know how to do this follow this link.

Now expand the ports branch,
(See thumbnail 1)

If you are using a built in serial port its is most likely assigned to COM 1,
Check that there are no ports with the same number, if another device is assigned the same COM port number you will have to change it to use another number.

If you are using a USB serial cable then it will appear in the list called something like “Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port”, if you are confused about which one it is remove your USB-serial cable from the USB port, then you should see that device disappear from the Ports tree.

Now right-click and open the properties of the Port you are using, and the click the port setting tab. (See thumbnail 2)

Check that your settings are the same as in thumbnail 2. If they are not change them.

Now if you need to change the serial port number click the advanced button. (See thumbnail 3)

You can now change the Com port number that is assigned to the serial port in the drop down menu. Select a number in the range of 2 - 8 that is not in use.

Click ok in the advanced settings window, then ok in the properties window.

If you are using a USB serial cable unplug it then plug it back in to the same USB port.

Now repeat the instructions in Ean’s video.
yea, ive been doing that, ive tried 2 thru 5… still nothing,
this is so frustrating, Thank you tho.

The cable is connected when you run the Renases software correct? The difference in our setup is I did mine on a Macbook Pro running Windows XP in Boot camp. Do you have access to another computer or can you try a different cable? Have you read through the threads to see if anybody else couldn’t see the com ports?

I know you probably have, but I had to ask. I really think getting the right cable is what solved the issue when I had it. No telling what Dynex has changed with these cables that could affect this.

This thing is so annoying, i stopped and took a break, so i put everything back together, and non of the LEDs turn on, only the power LED, nothing is connected, only the USB cable. Sorry for my language… SHIT!

Did you put the large rectangular paper card back on? Plug the harness that you unplugged to connect the firmware kit back in?

Yea, JUST WORK ALL READY! I hate this thing…
but thank you for all of your help

Any progress today?

I have xp, im going to try to install that on a partition of a hd, then im gona try that, at least it works now, like the vci…
