Need some buying advice! DJM-850 vs Rane 62

Have always had a more traditional “battle” setup 2 TT’s + Vestax PMC-05 Pro IV, and also have a VCI-300. Had picked up some CDJ-850-K’s a few months back, and picked up a Rane Sixty-One when they first dropped. However, I’ve always been a Vestax fan and when the VCI-380 was announced I chomped at the bit, sold the Rane 61, and got one of the first VCI-380’s here in the states. Used it inside of ITCH a few times and it is perfect, but then I went to use it for its full purpose, to use it in Scratch Live with my SL3 and CDJ’s/Turntables, in addition to using it in ITCH. Problem here being, I’m a Hamster scratcher, and there is no reverse switch, even if I hooked it up reverse it just creates an odd workflow for me since I have grown accustomed to my left/right upfaders being left and right and my crossfader being the only thing reversed. So instead of using the 380 as a standalone I’m just going to keep it an ITCH controller for the time being.

So, I scratch a little bit, and I do Video DJing, and I also own a Rane SL3 box. Most of my gigs now days are just bringing out the CDJ’s. Trying to decide between the DJM-850 to complete the pioneer set or to go with the Rane Sixty-Two. I liked my Sixty-One but have never owned a Pioneer mixer, so am trying to decide between these two mixers. Any help/suggestions would be much appreciated!

pioneer: traktor soundcard, onboard FX, beat FX (whatever that is) ok filter
62: dual port serato soundcard (if you do switchovers) good filters, cue points on mixer, (can you control ssl fx from the mixer?)

id go with the 62, purely cos im a serato fanboy and it will last you a lot longer than the pioneer.

p.s your not missing much with a pioneer mixer, ive only got one cos i ant afford a 62 yet

Why the 850? There are some places that’ll give you a really good discount on a new 900 (almost same price as the 900) pm me!

62, if you got the sl-3 & 380. No reason to go the pio route if you really dont have too.

go with the pioneer..

if you want a substandard mixer for scratch djs.

unless its a DJM-909

yeah. which is discontinued. I guess there is still the ill received DJM-T1 or a DJM with an innofader

A bit out of topic but, why don’t you open up your vci 380 and just reverse the crossfader ? Mount it the other way around…

If your going to buy pioneer definitely save a bit more money and go with the 900, Im not sure why anyone would buy the 850 tbh other than if you already had the CDJ-850 to complete the set, even then though. . .
