excellent spot!
I’m shocked this hasn’t gotten more traction. Although not a huge update on face value, this is the exciting update many have been waiting for. Initial Impressions:
Either way if this comes in at the old price point then Pioneer has a worthy successor on their hands.
What d’ya reckon that button, AND THE EXTRA KNOB up by the power switch is?
Good guesses, i only like noticed the first one lol.
5.) Still only 3 positions for fader contour.
Oh I would absolutely love that blue indicator light…
Too many times I turn on my effects, and it’s on the wrong channel…
Really interesting find, looks pretty legit. Also absolutely nothing online under “DJM-900NXS2” other than this post, sharp eyes for spotting this!
Excited to find out more about the new effects section, also the new FX indicator lights are a much needed addition, as SlvrDragon50 mentioned, this would considerably lessen the probability of bringing up the levels on a channel with an accidental effect still live.
I wonder if Pioneer is focusing more on the 900 series of mixer as opposed to the 2000? Over the past few years I havn’t really seen them take off, almost all riders I see still request 900s. I guess we will see in January when this (and more) will probably be revealed at BPM.
Built-in recorder, maybe? The button could light up red while it’s recording and the knob could be input level.
Give this man a cookie. So they took the best feature out of DJM-350, nice. Seems there is a USB-A port on the top right corner for plugging in a USB stick, knob can be a output level (playback from the USB stick as well as recording on it).
DJ’s will be able to take their turns on the mixer (inc. USB interfaces) and the recording will not be interrupted.
GREAT find.
other things I’ve noticed:
1/8" headphone jack now as well
Color FX Min/Max knob like on DJM2000 (FUCK YES! djm900 filter is so obnoxious without variable resonance knob)
Touch Strip for FX seems to be split into 2 rows now
Reverse Roll & Melodic effects are gone
there’s a new effect between Echo & Spiral as well as a new one above Slip Roll
Blue Quantize button on effects section is gone. could be just a regular button now, or built into mixer to auto detect when an input track has Rekordbox data to quantize to
The front plate of the mixer is not as slanted, and the label is written on the top plate now as opposed to the slanted front plate of the generation 1 DJM900
Actually the one thing I really hope this has is a built in network hub on the back for 4 CDJ’s. Should be easy to implement if they can figure out a way to make space for it
Definitely not enough room on the back for 5 LAN ports, even the original had no space for a single USB port on the back.
I thought the new units communicate wirelessly?
wouldn’t need to be 5, just 4. Rekordbox can be connected to a laptop thru USB. So they’d just have to squeeze in room for 3 more ports. like I said, I don’t know how, but their engineering team might be able to find a way. maybe they remove the MIDI port on the back (again, you can forgo the MIDI connection with USB to laptop instead), also take out the digital coax Master Out, and the Mic 2 1/4" port on the back. All 3 of those ports are without a doubt used the least by the majority of people (obviously, some people do utilize them, but some sacrifices would need to be made). I only say this because as a backline stage manager myself for festivals, it would make the whole CDJ’s linked into the DJM process in a live show scenario much simpler
Would be easier to put 2 LAN ports on CDJ’s and link them. Then you would just need 2 ports on the DJM ![]()
Shorter faders?
Is it just me or are the fader now even shorter? That’s good for fast moves and tricks but bad for longer mixing (comparing to 92’s long faders).
Not for the Rekordbox Pro DJ link. Ethernet remains the only option for that.
I dont know what you mean, I connected CDJ’s in HID to Rekordbox just fine via usb.
Pioneer should have 5 lan ports, a built in 4 port usb hub, usb for midi in/out/rekordbox, digital outs (yes a l;ot of people still use em), two stereo inputs for each of the 4 channels (with built in soundcard for DVS), xlr balance master out, rca master out, 1/4" balanced booth out, rca record out, two mic inputs (1 XLR combo on top and one 1/4" on rear), knob adjustable input fader curve, knob adjustable crossfader curve, and hpd/lpf filter knobs. That would make me buy it without any FX processor on board.
That’s isn’t using the Pro DJ link, though, that’s HID. Not the same thing at all. And a compromised experience by comparison, IMO.
Digital In’s are a MUST. a lot of the big name DJs have it explicitly stated in their rider that the CDJ’s be hooked in using Digital Coax. plus, it makes it loads easier for changeovers if someone has to plug in an external sound card or serato box. Plus, the less times you have to convert the signal path from Digital to Analog & back again the better.
edit: just saw you wrote digital out. i’ve yet to ever meet a single person in my 8 year career as a backline manager for festivals and clubs of touring world DJs ever use the digital coax OUT. same with the 1/4" mic on the back, unnecessary if there’s a combo jack on the top (you shouldn’t even run a mic straight into the mixer anyway but that’s a whole other topic for discussion I’m not going to get into). As well, let’s not forget that the djm900 is regarded as the top of the line mixer (ignoring the djm2000). A lot of the ins & outs make it capable for all sorts of scenarios, but it’s main target market is festivals & clubs with proper sound systems. If they wanted to they could do away with the RCA master out, and since this new DJM900 has a USB on the top right for recording straight to a stick you could do away with the Rec Out RCA on back. the MIDI port is not necessary for reasons i’ve mentioned above. In regards to the Pro DJ link function, I feel like a simple software update would allow it to work with USB into a laptop. But I also have pretty much never seen a DJ use a laptop with Rekordbox (***note: NOT RekordboxDJ, talking about ProDJ Link). As well many laptops, including ALL of Apple’s laptops for the past 3 years do not ship with an ethernet port built in anymore. A built in USB hub is also unnecessary and will never happen
