Maybe you’ve just heard this new track from Fatboy Slim and Herve, called “Machines Can Do The Work”. If not, here it is:
Now this track caused some heated discussion among my fellow electronic music friends, because of its Acid Sound. I mean, we can all agree that Acid isn’t really the most versatile subgenre, but while some people (like me) like the new track and its mix between modern house and old school acid bubbling, others seem to hate it and go even so far to call it a cheap “Acid 8000” knock off.
Well, what do the people here think?
I loved FBS when he was sampling old funk songs or weird forgotten stuff and making huge bangers.
He has always been in love with Acid and the combo of acid and big beats was refreshing at the time.
This sounds like a Chemical Brothers demo that has 3 months more work to be done before its a good tune.
He needs to do his own thang not try and emulate these electro plonkers that are everywhere.
Herve is ok but this is weak.
it’s like he took the acid synth from ‘everybody needs a 303’ and tweak the filter and arrangement a tiny bit. not totally feeling it, but wouldn’t call it an acid 8000 rip off.
not a fan of this nor am i a fan of most acid house but in regards to people saying fatboyslim is being derivative or trendy - have you guys ever listened to better living thru chemistry? acid is this guys bread and better, this isnt some bold new ground for him hes been doing this for awhile now
it’s cool but i’m not blown away by it. it’s an obvious hat-tip to fatboy slim’s work in the 90s and is playing into the recent trend of throw-back dance music which has been hot for awhile. For nostalgiac reasons i enjoy the tune, but from a production stand point it’s prettty average. it’s a fun track but they’re not breaking any new ground, but i don’t think they were trying to do anything but make a simple, fun, nostalgiac tune - so good job.
You can’t even say this is acid, well at least not for a Psytrance lover and for someone who has Hoffmann on the name
it’s just boring and old fashioned to me…
