New Kontroler S2
Whats up dudes…
I just bought the S2 and I am new to DJing. Any tips/pointers/criticism will be appreciated.
Looking forward to learning this hardware.
Nothing specific, but here is my best advice on getting started.
- Read the Traktor Manual. You can locate it by clicking the help tab at the upper left when not in full screen mode. Learning the software and hardware inside and out is very important.
- Learn music structure. Bars, breaks, phrasing, keys, etc.
- Read through the DJTT archive of blog articles that cover mixing, Traktor, and anything else you are unfamiliar with.
- Search YouTube for tutorials, there are some good ones to be found. Ellaskins has some good basic info in some of his older vids.
- Listen to mixes and try to copy the transitions you like. Figuring them out will teach you alot.
- Practice. Just like any instrumentalist, take small pieces and practice them untill you can do it in your sleep.
- Practice mixing using just the EQ’s.
- Use google to search the DJTT forums for answers to questions. The forum search option isn’t the best.

Record every mix you do. Listen back to figure out what worked and what didn’t. Repeat what worked, and fix what didn’t, and you’ll make a better mix every time after that.
good tip. whilst recording EVERYTHING may be a tad extreme certainly find time to record some “proper” 30-60 min mixes.
a while back I made a house mix and each and every track was a top tune, but when listening back i realised hardly any had vocals in. whilst this was ok for 2-3 songs in a row i realised i cudda done with 2 or 3 more vocal tracks to liven things up a bit
